It looks like you have now reached nirvana Tony.
But that doesn't mean that I have reached the limit as far as my efforts are concerned to get every last digit in the audio stream to be decoded and made audible accurately. I am however approaching the point of limited returns with no clear indication if the additional complexity would justify the cost.

Stan, do you plan on releasing a 'Turbo Caiman-II' at all? Special components rather than a redesign?

"release" is far too early a word to use. I am still at the R%D stage, after which I then have to do the drawing and then assemble the prototype for confirmation that it will work and surpass the Caiman in the first place. The last time I tried to do that it ended up being called the Gatorized Caiman. But this time I would like to go a lot further. In the mean time there is the small issue of developing a matching DAC for the Capella. Whilst the BMII is a perfect partner for the Capella, it does have a duplication of the headphone output.

The Caiman 2 is settling in nicely. It is noticeable upgrade over the BM2 which is a keeper-gratefully received by my son. The level of detail is breathtaking, with an even handed sonic presentation that is just a joy to listen to on cans with the Capella. It really requires careful cable matching as it reveals every nuance in the signal path. I don't think the bang for buck caveat is appropriate....it is an excellent piece of hi-fi regardless of cost or aesthetics. A fine upgrade to my music listening experience.
A Dac developed purely for use with the Capella with minimal features would be right up my street. The Capella is serving duties as an active battery powered pre in my set up. I returned to my passive pre but was concious that I lost nothing in terms of transparency and detail but gained the extra oomph and drive an active brings.
Im having great fun just listening to tunes I haven't done for years-probably the best indicator that your going in the right direction.

A Dac developed purely for use with the Capella with minimal features would be right up my street. I am still in the head scratching stage, but whilst minimal features might be the intention for the front panel controls, I have a far different plan for the internal design. I got a few circuit inventions gathering dust in some folders, which I would like try out in a prototype to see how they would perform in a DAC. I had to keep them under wraps and out of sight from the company I used to work for just in case the company claimed ownership and cut me out of any royalties. They already did that with some other inventions of mine such as the gain adjustable TV signal amplifier. I popped a couple of my circuits in the Capella, but there are a few more that didn't make it in the final design due to cost and availability of space for the controls. The one I would like to put in the matching DAC for the Capella is my cable impedance/reactance matching circuit. And that's just for starters...
