Hello everyone!
Having had the opportunity to purchase a superb 1969 Sugden A21 amp, my interst grew in quality audio gear. I am now trying to collect "period correct" items to match this wonderful amplifier.

Hi Jules,
Yes I am the bass player seen in the avatar. I'm actually a graduate bassist and I eventually began to build my own instruments a few years ago.
This put me on a quest for quality components in passive electronics design and for optimal means of sound reproduction in my field of application.
Having achieved good results with bass design and amplification, I am now trying to improve my hi-fi system, which consists as per today of: - Sugden A21 (1969) Class A amplifier - Denon DCD960 CD player - Thorens TD-166 mkII turntable - Jean-Marie Reynaud "Twin" shelf speakers - Audient D/A converter and audio interface - Sennheiser HD-25 headphones
This is basically a blend of late 1960's and early 1990's gear. I try to listen to music on the sound format it was originally produced for at the time of release.
My music tastes run between Blues, Classic Rock, Jazz (hardbop to contemporary), Soul, Rhythm & Blues, Progressive Rock, Folk, African traditional music and Electronica. I'm particularly fond of music produced during the 1970's.
Some of my favorite artists are: Joni Mitchell, David Bowie, Dave Holland, Bill Frisell, Hiatus Kaiyote, Talking Heads, ... I tend to discover music while tracking albums recorded by my "bass heroes", such as: Anthony Jackson, Wilton Felder, Bob West, Louis Sattlefield, Pino Palladino, among others.

Hi John, I haven't built the bass shown in my avatar, it is a Warwick "Thumb" (neck-through), a model created around 1986. Here are pics of my two latest self made instruments: The African Korina project n°II The Hawaiian Koa project: Hi-fi related pictures will be posted once I manage to take some of decent quality.

Gorgeous! What a pleasure it must be playing your own instruments.

Gorgeous! What a pleasure it must be playing your own instruments. Provided they perform flawlessly! But this takes countless hours, sometimes years of tweaking and fine tuning. When the desired balance is achieved between all components, then yes, it is total bliss! Perhaps a bit like audio equipment, I guess. Thanks to everyone for your welcome messages and kind comments.
