The odd Double Wopper can't be that bad for you can it??? Put it this way, the harm it will do to you is debatable depending on the rest of your diet. The harm it does to the planet/environment is well proven and documented. One thing that's for certain though (ask any nutritionist), eating one isn't going to be good for you Given I have a heart condition, I am sure I need to keep away from fast food more than others. My problem is that I cannot cook so takeaway ends up being easier, I know that is just an excuse but I find it really hard!

I smiled today as I found myself in Costa and couldn't help think of this thread; so I took a couple of pictures and write a couple of lines about my experience to perhaps offer a bit of balance. My wife and I were at a retail park visiting Halfords for some new wiper blades. We wanted to go for a coffee together as we haven't had the chance to spend time together, long story there. And what do you know there was a Costa Coffee shop right there, so I just had to oblige. The coffee shop was full of vibe and atmosphere, I found Costa tables to have mainly people sitting in pairs talking to each other, and people were genuinely enjoying each others company, it was a pleasure to be there. I had a brie, bacon and onion panini and a small Americano. I didn't want my coffee first, then have to wait for my food as I like them both together. I told the barista this, she was puzzled but it seemed to be no problem to her. The Panini was very good, and the coffee wasn't bad, maybe 7/10, perhaps the coffee should have been better as it was a coffee shop.So overall it was a warm and pleasurable experience. If there was an independent coffee shop near by we would have gone there, but to be honest the independent coffee shops I find the coffee to be not much better, obviously some are better than others, but if I averaged out my experiences of independent coffee shops then I would say they are no better or worse then Costa, but yes they probably do pay their taxes etc, and not wangle their way into higher and higher profit margins.

Thanks Tim, I shall take a look at those, and you're right, it is usually confidence that gets me when it comes to cooking.

If you only try one of those links Paul, have a look at the BBC Dishup site, it's designed exactly for people like you, those that think they can't cook, but actually they can

Soup is a good place to start as it's pretty hard to get that wrong but you can try literally endless combinations of ingredients and proportions. And it can be incredibly cheap and healthy too.

The Americano (black, of course) tasted great!
BETT is the largest IT in Education show in the calendar. It was vast and packed, but a useful chance to see all our suppliers and cool new stuff coming out.
Best new thing? PowerBI from Microsoft. Superb software.

I just walked past Costa at Waterloo (still open after midnight), found myself walking towards it, got to the counter and changed my mind. Went to Sainsbury's over the road and bought a bottle of water instead.

Never heard of Kupp, just Googled it and looks good. How hot was the coffee Jules, some reports on Trip Advisor to say the policy is not to serve it too hot, so it can be drunk immediately? I like my coffee hot

I'm at Costa Basingstoke now, trying the Old Paradise No. 11 bean. It's good!

Moka pots are great. I might go into Waterloo and buy a Costa and a Starbucks to do a Pepsi challenge, then I could vote
