John - you really must choose a platform before you decide on a particular model. These days there are three ecosystems, together with their respective cloud storage, and I would suggest that you go with Windows, Apple or Android depending on what you already have and what you like. Then choose a service provider depending on what signal you get where. Forget the pricing, they are very similar. Finally, choose a brand that you like and are comfortable with.

My example, if you need one: I'm a Windows man through and through, I use OneDrive for all my document/photo storage and I like O2's SIM-only contracts with 2GB data per month, and I get a good signal at home and at work. My phone also must have good Bluetooth connectivity with my car.
My current phone is a Samsung ATIV S...
...but I'm about to take delivery of a Nokia Lumia 930.

The current Nokias are widely acknowledged as having the best cameras. If you want good battery life, check the specs carefully. All the main apps are available on all the platforms. There is nothing I still need that I haven't got.

Samsung make damned good IT equipment across the range. I buy their monitors and small colour printers exclusively at work.

I recently got an HTC one M8.Best phone I've had so far, ticks all the boxes for me. Camera is pretty good too. Two days ago I got an HTC One Mini 2 phone and it's driving me nuts. First off the new apps I downloaded had no icons on the screen and even the phone and internet icons would vanish randomly. All of my downloaded games from the play store constantly crashed, so I deleted them for a fresh install and now I cannot download anything from the play store at all. I might call O2 tomorrow and ask if this is normal behaviour for a brand new HTC

Cured the downloading problem by deleting the gmail account and creating a new one.
The only real issue left to resolve is some apps and games "stopping unexpectedly".

The Nokia Lumia 930 is now set for shipping on 17 July. That's fine, my current Samsung is still excellent.

I've just taken delivery of the 930 today and what a gorgeous piece of technology it is. The Audio Standard looks really good and I've been posting a lot using it for practice.
