I have several budget MMs distributed across my TTs, but this one is my favourite (mostly because it's green): Nagaoka MP-150.

Still got the Decca, but foolishly sold the turntable and arm for a pittance twenty odd years ago

Jerry, how did you find the Grado cart? I didn't like it much. I found it bland and quite tedious. It did a lot of things right (as you would expect at its price) but it just failed to pass on much of the life and energy of the music. It was a pipe&slippers device, which is fine if that's what you want (many do!) but it's not for me. With one notable exception, I'm a moving coil kind of guy. A good'un has that pizzaz and dynamic speed that I seek in spades. Here was the exception ... It cost me about £10 used on ebay. A cheapo mm, but it sounded remarkably like a decent mc! I was attracted to it by its GAS name - Great American Sound, founded by the legendary James Bongiorno. www.davidsaudio.com/html/great_american_sound__gas__and.htmlThey made some seriously serious amps so I was curious what they did with a mm cart! Sadly, its diamond fractured after a couple of months use and I couldn't source a replacement. I believe it's a rebadged Micro Seiki LF 7E. It sounded damn fine - not quite the energy and speed of a good mc, but interestingly close.

Thanks Jerry, have thought about trying one, having read they are supposed to be the best of both worlds. Guess not..

The Grado Master Statement. Love those humble, self-effacing names! -- yes, I had very high hopes of it. But ....
