#12 - KARL JENKINS: STELLA NATALIS Stella Natalis is a work in twelve movements by Karl Jenkins celebrating different aspects of Christmastide - Winter, the sleeping child, tidings of peace, thanksgiving - with text sources ranging from Psalms to Carol Barratt. Conveying the Christmas message of peace, goodwill, compassion and a new beginning, Stella Natalis (‘star of birth’, ‘star of origin’) draws on an expanded palette of inspiration, including the Old Testament, Zulu text and reference to Hindu gods. Vocal score for solo soprano, mixed choir, female choir (SSA) ad lib., and piano reduction of the instrumental parts. I hope a few of you have enjoyed at least some the 12 pieces I picked, and perhaps discovered something new amongst them. I couldn't resist saving Karl Jenkins until last, just so I could say "I bet you didn't know that this Knight of the Realm, possibly the best known living British composer, co-founded jazz-rock group Nucleus and used to be in Soft Machine." I certainly didn't until I started researching this little project.

I bet I know someone who knows that and I bet he won't read this thread. Come on, prove me wrong, Andre!
Paul, I have to congratulate and thank you for this series of posts. What a great idea and what stamina you have, sir!

Thank you very much for this series, Paul. I have listened to a lot of new (to me) music as a result. May we book you for Easter?

Yes, interesting series. Thanks, Paul. Here's some extras from me now that Paul's series is complete .... - lighthearted and fun with a strong east European tang. - also fun and interestingly varied - and some Xmas music from one of my favourite Baroque composers - Corelli's famous Christmas Concerto on this album, along with several others
