The Derek Trucks Band - Songlines
Derek Trucks is a slide guitar player from America. He started performing at the age of 11. He has also been along with Warren Haynes the guitarist in the Allman Brothers. you can hear him play on the following albums
Peakin' at the Beacon
Live at the Beacon Theatre
Hitting the Note
One Way Out
Derek has many influences in his playing including Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, Ellmore James, Miles Davis, and Ali Akbar Khan
The title comes from Aboriginal culture. Songlines are used by people to describe what they see on journey, helping to link into the land with song. A important survival skill that helped people travel from one place to another.

I enjoy the creation Myth
The late author Bruce Chatwin's description of aboriginal creation myths. According to these myths, the world was sung into existence by totemic elder beings who wandered the Australian continent along invisible pathways. These were later known as "songlines" because by singing out the names of everything -- trees, flowers, streams, animals, clouds, earth -- they breathed form, order, and beauty into a world that was being born. So perhaps the purpose is to breathe out beauty into the world
Its the 6th album the band has released and what we have is a tight band that can still sound spontaneous.
For me this is Derek most mature album with his own band and benefits from having a dedicated vocalist Matt Mattison. The song writing is strong and the band is really tight.
The album explores a lot of different music styles from Blues, to Jazz. RnB, to Qawwali music. The album rewards on more listening.
