Good Morning all, Would anyone happen to own/know of/have experience with this new vinyl cleaning machine? project-audio.com/main.php?prod=vc-sDecent price, though I wonder how it would fare against the similarly priced Okki Nokki or Moth variants. My best wishes to you all for a happy and productive New Year! -j.

It does indeed; built quality on Project products has always been rather good. As this will be a mail order thing, I just don't know how it would compare to the Okki or Moth.

I think it be around the same looking at its design

It looks quite good to me. One thing that would concern me just a little is the clamping disc - it looks like you would stand a good chance of damaging the playing surface if you dropped it and it's the shape and size of something that I would find easy to drop!

They're all heavy enough to cause damage, Chris.
Just check against the price of a Clearaudio Smart Matrix, which I can thoroughly recommend.

I see what you mean; frankly, I've been known to suffer from the occasional case of "butterfingers"... May I ask if you gentlemen own an RCM and, if so, which one? Best -j.

I own a Moth. The clamp is small and deep, and I've never dropped it yet. Lifting a thin disc like that off a record with nothing to grab hold of except the edges would trouble me a bit. Not to say that you couldn't attach something to it to use as a handle, though.

ordered some stock about a year ago after seeing a prototype at show & will share thoughts once they arrive soon RCMs are very small scale production items from very small companies , until now as project are the largest turntable manufacturer & all parts made in house in volumes to reduce costs

I have one of these babies, highly recommended but quite a buit more expensive than the Project one. Have also heard good things about the Smart Matrix but the latest model was released after I bought my VPI: VPI_HW17i by losenotaminute, on Flickr

Its price, however, especially here in Greece is way over what I would be willing to spend....

I am very happy with the results from my Okki Nokki and it is not even the latest version. The solution (pun not intended) is not just about the machine but also the cleaning fluid you use. Currently I am very happy using 'The Right One' fluid and I think this liquid is popular with many others here.

Hi Greg,
I've actually read the very positive reviews and impressions of the "Right One" fluid, both here and elsewhere. Unfortunately, as I live in Greece and with capital controls still in place, ordering anything from abroad for the time being is virtually impossible.

There are threads on other forums about build quality problems with the Project machine. I have had two customers who bought them (elsewhere) and are having troubles. One customer has returned the Project and ordered a Moth RCM, which is bullet proof.

I never knew that about the Project. Thanks Dave. Agree with the bullet proof nature of the Moth though, mine has had a lot of use over ten years and is still just like new.
