My mother gave me a very nice vinyl present this Christmas which I'm very much looking forward to getting home next week! On DG I have a re-issue of the Bach Violin Concertos and the double, with the Oistrakh bros ... And very excited by this new version of Mozart's Requiem by the Dunedin Consort on Linn Records, which I have high hopes for looking at some of the awards and reviews it has enjoyed ... Here's the story on this one ... www.dunedin-consort.org.uk/shop/recordings/mozart-requiem/

I love Mozart's Requiem, was listening to a Deutsche Grammophon recording conducted by Karl Böhm (on tape cassette!) last night. I've seen it live a few times, the best was at the Edinburgh Festival two or three years ago with a huge symphony orchestra and chorus. Has to be played loud IMO, quite awesome.

Agreed. Jules, I have the Dunedin Consort recording, would like to know whether you have listened to the Fruhbeck de Burgos recording (it's on Spotify). I'll listen again to the Dunedin tomorrow.

Yes, best played LOUD!! Not heard the de Burgos but will surely have a listen. All this talk of the Requiem has made me want to hear it live and have found an interesting looking proposition at Cadogan Hall in January, with Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the Monteverdi Choir. Just might take the family... www.monteverdi.co.uk/concerts/mozart-2016

Now then, I'm sure JEG knows how to play it. Sounds fab!

Mozart - Requiem, van Veldhoven, Netherlands Bach SocietyThis SACD is rather small in scale, small but perfectly formed. I haven't played it in a while, and it couldn't be further from de Burgos' huge scale, but it's a nice complimentary performance.
