A quick practical question. Is it ok or are there any disadvantages to leaving a BMU powered up all the time or is it better to only have it live when the HiFi is in use?

I kept it powered on it seemed to benefit from that as sound got more solid

Isn't it a passive device?

It just sits inline between wall socket and the gear. I NEVER leave my gear - or TV - on (standby) 24/7 and it's always switched off at the wall overnight or on days when I don't get to play it. During the day, the workroom gear is on almost continuously. Fine for the Krell too, as it runs stone cold on idle and only gets hot - quickly - when either of the pairs of bias lights come on.

Mine has been on constantly since I built it, except when I take it to an Owston or bake off.

Hi
I've got the BMU at the moment and I am well chuffed with the results. I've repeatedly switched from mains to BMU to mains to, etc. and the difference is significant. The BMU offers much better SQ. Better in fact than I had expected. By 'better' I mean clarity, depth of soundstage, instrument placement and transparency all get a big boost. And for once this is not 'I've got something new so there must be a difference' situations. The improvements are soooooooooooooo obvious. Drum kits in particular (my favourite instrument) are just a joy to listen to. Great cymbal decay, easy to move around the kit, great cymbal/tom placement, etc. Lovely.
Hats off to NVA! I don't think I can live without their BMU. Total no brainer.
Now,where's the nearest 18 month interest free balance transfer credit card deal...
Cheers
Steve

Forgot to say, I had my Ayon CD-3S CD player and Accuphase E-406V amp plugged into the NVA BMU.

Doh! I also forgot to say that I live in a mid 80's housing estate near a pretty big industrial estate (nice eh...?). That's a lot of people and machinery draining the mains. May be an issue for a hifi user?
Prior to the BMU's arrival I have experienced big sound quality improvements late in the evening which is welcome but also leaves me thinking why can't my system sound like this all the time?
Cheers
Steve

Isn't it a passive device? Yes, but because it's a 'magnetic store' there is mileage in leaving it powered up for a while and letting the windings settle.

I've heard these kind of improvements with a BPS which I believe is basically the same thing .

Looks like I'm going to have to try this at some point ... just wondering what I will have to sell first to fund one though ...

On the basis of just two or three hours use, Mr Dunn may just have secured a sale for some time in the future. The future is here - I have just placed an order for a BMU.
