I'm wondering what Christmas means to you in terms of classical music?
Are there certain works you like to listen to at this time of year or are there any particular concerts you try to get to?

Handel's Messiah (I have a beautifully recorded LP set on the Proprius label)- and a rather lovely 10" ep of Mantovani Christmas carols from the year of my birth (1957)
P.S. I completely forgot CD's of carols from Kings College Cambridge.
Maybe not the music you were thinking of, but still...

Nice one Dave, I haven't listened to the Messiah for a long, long time ...
I'm not familiar with Proprius - are they some kind of small audiophile label?
I must say I absolutely love carols at Christmas and if possible will take the family to St Albans Cathedral again. Last year the whole cathedral was absoulutely bursting with people and there was a genuinely beautiful, festive and expectant atmosphere there ...

I was thinking of the album on Proprius which includes Julsang. Superb performance and sound and proper Christmassy!

Just remembered: it's Cantate Domino. Well worth buying.

Christmas means I try my best to avoid classical music, just like the rest of the year!
OK, OK, maybe it's not all terminally dire. I did like that piece called "Troika" from Prokofiev's Lieutanant Kije. Loved the Sky rendition.

Ah yes, the Troika is perfect for winter / Xmas, it's a great tune ...
