I've just noticed that this forum default does not host photos locally, i.e does not upload user photos or attachments. Is this a conscious decision by admin or a forum software restriction.
I linked a photo to a thread earlier and just realised my server gets hit every time somebody views the thread. No problem with that only I wondered what happens here when there is a problem with the photo server e.g if photobucket is down or slow or similar.
or what happens if the original poster removes the photo at some later date without realising it wasn't uploaded. User might assume it was uploaded as per other forum software....maybe?

Hi Ed, yes it's a conscious decision by us as we know from previous experience that images build up storage space very quickly and then storage charges would kick in.
We strongly recommend a 3rd party host. I use Flickr but Photobucket is popular too. They are sufficiently robust that they are rarely down, so the hosted images are stable. As to someone subsequently removing the image, that's forum life and could well apply to any image from anywhere.
We have put image posting help in the How-To section.
