Does this get on anyone else's nerves as much as mine?
Let's analyse it: lots of vendors put all their excess stock and unwanted crap on a fire-sale in order to release their warehouse space for better things. Lots of punters, who didn't know they needed this crap, suddenly spend money on it and congratulate themselves for winning a 'bargain'. Meanwhile, the vendors rub their hands in glee.
Back in the real world, the rest of us who couldn't give a toss and won't change our buying behaviours on the whim of a 'special day' designed for the Americans, saturate our mailboxes over and over with mindless offers and other spam that needs to be junked.
Have I got that about right?

You missed only one thing: It's an opportunity for those with a lower brain cell count than their age to have a brawl.

Just seen a branch of Curry's on the BBC News, it was empty. Perhaps last year's lesson has been learned by the punters, if not the retailers.

why is it we only copy the americans bad ideas ?? how about copying the death penalty ?? Because we like to think that we're a more civilised country? Ritualised state-sanctioned murder isn't. Anyway, this is dangerously close to politics and risks ending in tears. Let's not go there.

Another way to flog gear. I heard "Black Friday week" on the news yesterday. So now it's a week. Bit like Christmas is about 2 months. A useful counter is at Martin's Money tips (no not *that* Martin) www.moneysavingexpert.com/

What irritates me more than Black Friday is the fact that it is now being exploited to the extent that Black Friday no longer refers to Friday - it's now the Saturday, the Sunday, the week before, the week after, and I've even seen some refer to the whole of November as Black Friday. I'm not really sure why retailers need a pre-Christmas sale, as a little patience brings the Christmas sales. I remember when I was a kid - January sales actually happened in January (usually the 2nd or 3rd), rather than Boxing Day as some do now. If someone wants to buy something specific, it doesn't matter what day you open - they'll still come to you and buy it.

Black Friday is one of the many things to which I hardly give a moment's thought, mainly because it causes me to get that Steely Dan song on the brain for several days!
Seriously, though, who gives a toss? It's just a hyped-up excuse to laugh at poor people fighting for shiny things.

Who cares?, judging by the amount of emails and adverts and phone calls a significant number of the above. Personally it would be amusing if it did clog up my time
