Tricky one for me this month as I'm torn between two albums that are both very, very good.
First up is Air : Moon Safari.
Originally released in 1998 (then re released as a Ltd Ed in 2008) Jean Benoit Drunckel and Nicolas Grodin have created one of the first and finest downtempo trip hop albums. Soft, dreamy electronica is gently pushed along with very little harshness or edge to the sound. I really like it. Theres no real highlights - I like all the tracks - and the album as a whole works very well. It's a great sound.
However....
Air are also responsible for "The Virgin Suicides". Deep, dark and emotive this is the soundtrack to the Sofia Coppolla film of the same name that deals with the suicide of four teenage girls. Cheery stuff! Favourites, for me, include Dead Bodies and Suicide Underground that I find dramatic, gripping tracks.
Air have a huge catalogue on Spotify which is full of remixes (I've linked to some) - a lot of these use "real" instruments rather than electronics so the "Air" sound changes quite dramatically.
If you do like this then La Femme : Hypsoline is also well, well worth hearing.
Go crazy, go wild and listen to them both. Hopefully you enjoy them.

Thanks for the early Album Choice, Chris. Before I put the poll up, are we to assume that we are voting on Moon Safari primarily?

Well, you can only have one poll per thread, so that kind of decides it. I'll put it up now...

When I first bought Moon Safari it was the first I had heard of Air. I bought it on a recommendation, and what a good call that was. This album has rarely been out of my constant rotation and is one of those rare ones that work equally well in the car and at home. It's also a musical grower as well as one that shows hidden depths when played on a great quality system. Why do I like it? Hard to say, but it certainly has hooky hooks, great synth sounds and some nice singing, too, something you don't always find from electronic bands. For me, it's the perfect blend with good songs and memorable tunes. You say you have no highlights, Chris , but for me it's Talisman. Wonderful! 9/10

I've got this , it was suggested by someone somewhere and I gave it a listen and thought no more about it . Along time later I then heard a track on Radio 6 , the DJ saying off the excellent Moon Safari album , so I tried it again and eventually bought it. I don't know what it is about the album I like it just great to play anytime. 9/10

I'm the same! I bought this album on the recommendation of someone else in an exercise similar to this one. I played it a few times but instantly knew that it wasn't for me. It cost me a penny plus postage and I actually paid someone to take it from me!! (....well, the postage anyway). However, in the spirit of Album Choice, I will play it again in order to give it a fair go. I'll be using Spotify though - I'm not buying it again! But if anyone wants a copy, it can still be had from the same source. Watch out though, it's gone up to an outrageous £0.42p!

Love it, not quite as much as Talkie Walkie which I believe is a more complete album so 9/10 for me

I first "got in to" Air through watching The Virgin Suicides; I really liked Playground Love. Moon Safari was the second album of theirs I bought, and I've added Talkie Walkie and Pocket Symphony since. 9/10 for me as it's an album I still go back to and enjoy.
