That's why we link to Spotify and You Tube versions of the albums we feature in Album Choice, so that people who don't own it can listen to it without having to buy something they may not like. The sound quality isn't perfect, but it's respectable and good enough to give a (musically) critical listen. I don't use either of those, I'm an audiophile. Thanks for trying to help though, appreciated.

I don't use either of those, I'm an audiophile. You don't enjoy music that much then, just gear

I like to say that lo-fi is a lot better than no-fi. It's a means to an end and it's the way a lot of us discover new music, it's really not as bad as you think, honest!

Spotify is superb for trialling albums I might buy and the free version is fine for that. Definitely worth creating an account, a two-minute job.

Apparently for some, being an audiophile may be more important than discovering new music, as Tim alluded to. That's fine if that's what you want to do, but you have to question your motives for being in the game if you don't actually want to play it.

Was that harsh? I hope not.

Guest, I urge you to try Spotify free. It opens up your world rather like having one of those listening booths in old record stores on permanent tap.

I love music that much guys that it 'demands' I listen to it in the best possible way. I sit and I listen. I don't cook while I'm listening. I don't listen while waxing the car. I sit, I listen; that's all.

That's fine, but you can do that with Spotify too - in fact that's exactly what I often do. Never once did I wax a car....music or not!

Yes, so do I without any parallel tasking. Music is too important for that.

Each to their own Guest but I think it lunacy! Why? Because you are missing out on so much more music, which is ultimately the point of this hobby

Yes, so do I without any parallel tasking. Music is too important for that. I mean all the frequencies, not the distraction. I like to hear the whole thing, not some muffled process 3rd abortive attempt at squeezing the dynamics.

Because you are missing out on so much more music, which is ultimately the point of this hobby I can burn anything I want to CD and then listen to it properly. I have over 2000 CD's and 350 Lp's and 200 cassettes. Not to mention 1000's of radio shows. I can get absolutely anything I want, but then only listen to it properly.
