Patterson Hood - Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance2012 Very sad to learn that one of my favourite and never seen bands have split up Phantom Limb from Bristol, superb powerful vocals from Yolanda Quartey - great shame. They were an Album Club choice of mine on AoS (The Pines) which folk quite liked. Phantom Limb - S/T2008

Back home early after an early start to a stressful day, so it's feet up on the sofa, a nice cup of coffee (first of the day!) and DB on the stereo. It's times like this that the old Radford STA15 / AR 2ax combo sounds at its best. And bloody hell, does it sound good this afternoon!

I think so Tim. I squiffled it up at a charity shop in Sussex last week, along with all sorts or other excitements and enticements. It's an excellent album, but seems quite short. Maybe I'm imagining it?

Ooh! Sometimes, I have this mental aberration where words sort of float past me and I grab one that seems handy to use at the time. The above use of 'squiffled' was one of those occasions! Then, after posting, it occurred to me that this may be a new word. So I Googled it. Nope! The entry into the Urban Dictionary.....
squiffle To leave less than a full portion of something in a misguided effort to be polite.
Sometimes this is an attempt to avoid guilt for consuming the last portion. Most commonly used in reference to food, but can be used with supplies and materials. "My sister squiffled the cookies." (She left just one in the package, rather than simply finishing the package.)
Kind of apt for running off with the good stuff from the charity shop!!

Yes, he is and he uses a rather lovely image of her as his avatar. I have a couple of her albums on vinyl too.

Yes, I remember the Avatar, I didn't know who it was at first, but good old Google did a reverse image find for me Got the AM bug tonight - this was the first album I bought of hers and it has probably my favourite AM song on it, Steal the Sun - wonderful. Allison Moorer - Miss Fortune2002

Ah...nostalgia ain't wot it was. It strange to listen critically after all these years to stuff that was lost in the whole mania back then. Its so much better than i remember from the time. Simply great pop music and more. OK, they weren't the greatest instrumentalists (Ringo sure wasn't the world's greatest drummer) but its all so musical and the playing is the servant of the music rather than the usual flash antics. Might just manage Sgt Pepper to see if I can see how it inspired all the proggy rockers

Playing AM on Spotify now, Tim. I'm guessing she might be a bit too 'Country' for you Martin, but I'm a huge fan of both her and her sister. House of Hats - This Love2014 I just love this band, discovered at the recent Maverick Festival in Suffolk. Superb vocal harmonies and some very solid songwriting.
