Unconditionally Guaranteed : Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band. vinyl LP in a single sleeve. Recorded 1974 at Hollywood Sound, Released April 1974 . On Mercury USA Virgin UK. Producer Andy DiMartino I bought this pristen album decades ago in a charity shop. That gave me time to enjoy it before I knew that on completion, & sales crashed like a lead balloon A The Magic Band effectively sacked Beefheart by all quitting. "They had become increasingly disenchanted with the lack of financial success, having subsisted on food stamps and donations from their parents, and with Beefheart's tyrannical control over the group". "When the band finally got their album copies, they were horrified. As they listened, it was as though each song was worse than the one which preceded it." In 1974 Beefheart's Mercury recording contract ran out at which point he disowned the album& the following one. I still like this album regardless of the above. Though very much of it's time & despite being described as tyrannical the voice of Beefheart (Don Van Vliet) works today worth a listen if you can.

I've always thought it was bizarre that more isn't made if this guy. At age 20 he sounded like an aging veteran with the voice of a legend and the charisma with a guitar of something approaching SVR. Feels like a guy who will be hailed as a god one day when he's no longer here but in the meantime I never hear his name mentioned anywhere on anybody's lists.

I still like this album regardless of the above my Stack Audio Serene has improved the sound. palace we have all noticed constant repetitive mentions of Stack Audio, Auva and now Serene. Have you been asked by Stack Audio to make mention of them in all your posts (not just here, but in PFM too)? This is called shilling and is giving them free advertising, which is not allowed on this forum. In any case, please will you stop unless it is to write review content in an appropriate thread, and nowhere else?

Touch of Schmilsson in the Night : Harry Nilsson. Vinyl LP. Recorded 1973 March 15–22 CTS Studio's Wembley England & RCA Recording Studios N.Y.C . Engineer Phil Mcdonald Producer Derek Taylor Released 1973 June on RCA Victor I bought this album in 1973/74, it is a collection of 20th century standards arranged by Frank Sinatra's arranger & a friend of Nilsson Gordon Jenkins. It is an album I play to chill & relax great Voice & quality of the 20 or so musicians it's a shame Nilsson died at 54 years old. Nilsson said in an interview about the album "Hell, I'm a baritone now. I was hoping to get hoarse like Ray Charles because that choir-boy thing is gone. I knew it then. I told both Derek and Gordon, this is the last of it. That incredible, flexible, rubber-band-like voice - I just barely snuck in that album under the gun." I played this album today at a lower volume, the fine detail was still there as was the double bass full & sonorous plummyness but not overblown bloom in the room. I recommend this album very highly use whatever your preferred format is.
