One gripe with The Last Dinner Party is the recording quality of their album. Qobuz has it at 24bit 48kHz - might as well be as GSM 13kbps it's so bad.

It's a shame that they mess it up so badly.

I find the replay gain thing interesting, sorry if it bores everyone else... Here are some track that are high, or is that (-) low 🙂 Sounds okay to me This one too No problem Could be better but.. This one I grant you is well over the top (radio edit? wth) These sound dynamic enough Here's one I play for visitors and they like it / usually say ooh who's this and note it down.. I've always considered my system pretty tolerant of higher replay gain numbers. Doesn't usually trigger me. Perhaps it's how my ears are feeling? Mood, tiredness etc affects hearing. Too much toe in of speaks can negatively affect things too (sound harsh). I believe as get older we perceive distortion / compression in a less tolerable light. Not quite on topic but parts of it are relevant myhearingcenters.com/blog/sensitivity-to-sound-as-we-age/There's more to it for me than just replay gain. They tweak lots of things in the mix / mastering, I'm not sure which is where though

Yes, agreed Steve, and I too know some songs that sound decent with high ReplayGain. All it means is that the song is mastered for the loudness wars and therefore sacrifices some dynamic range, of which in digital there is usually plenty.

This is being touted as one of the best live albums of recent years... Whadda you say, julesd68 ? I'd never even heard of these guys Paul! Enjoying it muchly so far - reminds me quite a lot of 70's Foreigner and Styx. Really good musicians. Got that classic Les Paul tone going on with the guitars ... Classic vocals too. If they'd been doing this 50 years or so ago they probably would have been filling stadiums.

I'd honestly never heard of them until about an hour ago, but (to quote from their website) they [CATS in SPACE] have caused quite a stir since landing in 2015. With their unique sounds, they will transport you back to the days of 70s Classic Rock. Think loud guitars, walls of soaring multi-tracked vocal harmonies, grandiose pianos, and huge singable choruses. It’s purr-fect! Touring with legendary rock giants Deep Purple, Status Quo and Thunder playing UK arenas, plus Hyde Park with Phil Collins and Blondie the Cats have gained an ever-growing army of faithful fans, gaining incredible live reviews along the way. From humble beginnings to Hammersmith Odeon, Hyde Park and the London 02 Arena it is just part of the amazing journey for these Cats so far... www.catsinspace.co.uk/homeI discovered them via Farcebook, and they're rather good.

I have to say, it's been a long, long time since I played a double-CD album from start to finish like I did with Fire... julesd68 , if you haven't already, try " Unfinished Symphony" from my other post. It runs through every 70's trope in the book, including a burst of guitar harmony. I think it's safe to say though, that they worship at the altar of Queen more than any other band.

TUSK : Fleetwood Mac. Double vinyl LP single sleeve. Recorded 1978-1979 The Village Recorder, los Angeles. Released 12th October 1979 USA 19th October UK on Warner bros. Producers Fleetwood Mac, Richard Dashut & Engineer & Ken Caillat & Engineer +Re-Mastering. This album I bought in November' ish 1979 playing as I type, apparently Lindsey Buckingham was vehemently opposed to this album being anything like Rumours. Thus it is a possibly a bit experimental. I have not played the album for 3 or 4 years, after my recent copper foil exploits to remove & prevent EMI/RFI & even more recent sprinkling of Stack Audio Auva 100's & Auva EQ's, I am essentially listening with fresh ears to a new album, the voices are emerging from an inky black background with an almost ethereal aura of instrumentation and with sharp controlled deep bass. At the time or release Tusk cost $1.4 million, the most expensive album to make up to that date. The singing is first class as you would expect of the late Christine McVie as is Stevie Nicks also the multi talented Lindsey Buckingham singing, playing guitar as well as drums/percussion & keyboards. The timing of John McVie bass guitar & Mick Fleetwood on drums/percussion is superb. Peter Green (a founder of Fleetwood Mac) plays guitar on Brown Eyes, & a marching band on Tusk. The whole album is well produced & recorded. I am listening to an album that not only has stayed the course of time I think it more relevant today than all those years ago. Very highly recommended.
