I had an hour in the chair this afternoon listening to folkalley...
sometimes it's rewarding but this afternoon I felt I'd be better off watching paint dry. One memorable track was 5 minutes repeating the same 4 or 5 word phrase, I think it was somebody called Maria Muldour?

Not sure what's possessed me to put this on this morning, but it's undeniably jolly. The Ragtimers Play Music from 'The Sting' (1974)

Pulled this out as it was next to the Ragtimers and I've not heard it in ages.

I was listening to a Spotify selection of Mahavishnu Orchestra earlier, in view of Mike's Album Choice. I'm slowly coming round...

Ah ha! I saw the LP going for beans on discogs yesterday, so picked it up - should arrive later today. From Mike's write-up I'm expecting it to be my cup tea.

Alison Moyet - The Minutes
It's a shame that the only song worth having on this album is When I Was Your Girl, but what a great song that is. Why then do even more damage by fading it out?

Been looking forward this; released for the first time on 2LP: Geinoh Yamashirogumi - AKIRA OST (1988) I love this album. Fantastic mix of traditional Japanese, gamelan, and more obviously Western influences. 'Kaneda' is a great opener, and the 'big number' 'Tetsuo' is hauting and beautiful - gamelan meets Philip Glass (the introduction of the vocal at around 4.15 has stuck with me since I first saw the film as a teenager).

I am a late-comer to Eva Cassidy. Sue has 4cds. No vinyl tracked down yet. Trying to accompany her singing "over the rainbow" for a friend's birthday party ("the guests bring the entertainment ") got me back into playing guitar a bit, but at the price of an excruciatingly poor debut performance. A fabulous interpreter of songs Oh good grief. I have sat and listened through several of her interpretations of other people's songs and without exception I thought they were just plain awful I was listening on the cans and Ronnie asked me who the hell that was. I told her and all I got back was a grimace. I had hopes for Songbird and Who knows where the time goes but nope, dreadful. What different expectations we must have. Talking of Sandy Denny, her solo recording of Who knows where the time goes is just fabulous. Much as I love the Fairfield release, her single makes much more sense and is much 'darker' - musically speaking that is of course Vive la difference I guess

Off to visit my grandparents in a bit - recording this 2LP to tape so there's something to listen to in the car that my partner will get along with.
