I'll need some convincing it's aliens when scientists don't know what 95% of the universe is made of!

Well, yes, there is a lot of convincing to be done!
I suspect it's a temporary comet deluge after a near miss by another, passing star disrupted the Oort cloud. There is a suspicious star in almost the same line of sight which might be the culprit, and the probability of a random coincidence of being along the same sightline is quite low.

But it could be a type of Dyson Sphere (good excuse for an awesome image! ) ...

It's not to scale, obviously, as that world would be burned to a cinder, but you get the idea. Larry Niven did it well.

Yes it would be , but I don't think we need any contact at the present time of our evolution , maybe in a thousand years when/if we are a bit more civilised..

I believe Jerry lives reasonable close to the UK's own other worldly civilization. Shabb hill looks suspiciously like an Alien craft crash landed possibly a millennia ago, and due to our backwards society at the time (and still now if we are honest) they ability to repair and refuel their transportation would not happen for a wee while. Over the centuries these trapped members of a race far in advance of our own primitive culture starting running low on supplies and eventually succumbed to having to breed with the local's and many hybrid creatures were formed? 'Formed' is possibly a diplomatic word in this instance, as that very famous old song 'If you go down in the woods today' is incredibly apt as a trip through Coleford and Cinderford will reveal the most starting truth that Aliens have been here for many a' year Seriously other intelligent life must exist in this universe due to the law of probability, yet we have not discussed the other 'panes' of the multi-verse. Mind you if other beings were studying us humans they would properly run a mile!
