Complicated build and you need to be confident in your safety procedures around high voltages. Valve kits are not for everyone.
What about one of Colin's SECA designs?

Chris I imagine you get a decent amp for your money but often DIY stuff is harder to move on

I see that one has been winking at you since it was posted on another thread!
Chris, the trouble with buying kits made up by someone else is that, ideally, you should have some knowledge of the competence of the person who constructed it. Think about it - do you want to risk your kid/s, wife and pets safety by having something like a potentially deadly valve amp out on the loose in your front room?
This is when you need someone who knows their onions to come with you and bring their test gear with them to check the thing over before you hand over the cash. Either that or perhaps a cast iron agreement to allow you to get your cash back if it doesn't come up to snuff when you get someone to check it out after you do the deal.
You'd never forgive yourself if something happened, mate.

Chris I imagine you get a decent amp for your money but often DIY stuff is harder to move on Checking completed listings shows just how hard this has been to shift. It's failed to sell many times. It actually sold for £330 in August but presumably either didn't complete or was returned. I always buy with an eye to not losing when I sell. On that basis I wouldn't pay his asking price for this.

Yep, I've seeen this on ebay and have been curious, but unless you are technically competent yourself then buying someone else's high voltage potential botch up does not seem a good idea.
It might be fine, it might not. But personally I wouldn't plug it in until someone competent had checked it over.

IF I was going to go for it I'd got to about £300 then allocate £100 for work reqd. That's taking into account everything that's been said here and again,I'm in no rush. I've just got an itch for an AN amp.

I wouldn't say this is a very difficult kit to build. However, this isn't an advert for the kit but for one already built. Given that I wouldn't say it strikes me as particularly good value for money and I would rather build one from the kit directly. In addition, it is only 10W and you better be listening to very efficient speakers with a benign load or listen very quietly - such amps are not for every system.

If you really like it Chris, then treat yourself. Money is only some use when you are spending it, right? The valves look like they could do with a good clean and it's an amplifier and a project in one.

Ynwan- don't fancy building a kit as my DIY skills are simply rubbish. Volume simply isn't an issue as my listening space is small and this will partner with my AN Ks nicely I reckon. As for vfm then maybe, maybe not. I simply see this as the only way to get a listen to the Audio Note kit I've always liked. Have to say though if I could sell my amp I'd rather go for an OTO!
Yeah Guest,I agree with you. Hmmmmm
