Blimey, I was thinking of moving up to a 46" or so set from 42"! But then, my priority is audio so the screen is not required to dominate as in a cinema. I will only buy a 4K display once I have Sky Q Silver installed, which won't be for a while anyway.

I do have a 39" Panasonic, which is mainly for watching the odd bit of TV - the Sky box only really gets used for Formula 1, British Touring Car, and (when I can catch it) World Touring car. I watch the odd WWII documentary, or any shark documentaries. Most of the comedy I watch I own on DVD or Bluray (Spaced, Bottom, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Fast Show etc), which would be via the TV too. I haven't switched it on since Formula 1 finished last year, other than one Sunday morning when I watched a few documentaries, so I'm loathe to spend any money on it. I'd rather put it into a projector where I know I'll get good use out of it - I watched almost 600 films last year.

Interesting how you split display functionality between films (projector) and broadcast (TV).

I don't see the point of watching any TV on the projector. I don't generally watch dramas or anything like that, more documentaries really, and motorsport, as previously mentioned. I used to watch F1 on the PJ, but there were more boring races than good ones, so decided not to bother wasting the lamp life. I might watch the odd favourite track on the PJ.

I hope you don't run it like 90% of friends with AV systems, at far too high a level?

I wasn't being contentious, just making an observation that many owners of AV systems including a subwoofer think that it needs to be heard all the time to justify its existence. You then get treated to the usual gross amounts of gut-wrenching vibration accompanied by a smile and a comment like "good, isn't it?". To which it's hard to respond with "no mate, it sounds terrible".

No, I agree with you Martin. I've ran Ken Kreisel subs hot before, but they're so well behaved they allow you to get away with it. Most other subs just end up sounding boomy and soft. I was in the JL room at the Bristol Show this year (as I have done for the last three years), and yet again, it didn't impress me. Fairly well controlled, but just way too much soft bass, lacking any real punch. I don't know how many thousands the sub was that they were using, but my SB2000 sounds better in my room without EQ at a fraction of the price.
Most people when they add a sub just want to hear it and feel it, regardless of whether it sounds natural or not. if my choice was between a 5.0 like I had, and a 5.1 system with a sub that just sounds wrong, I'd take the 5.0 system any day of the week.
Apologies for the late reply, been a little busy since Bristol!

Looks like I may be swapping my Innuos Zen for the upcoming, full width Zen with linear PSU - looking forward to the new interface, and whether it'll bring any immediately noticeable sound improvements to the streaming side of my system...

What would you like to know? For £65, Innuos will collect yours, update the software to the completely new one the same as the new models, and return it to you. Edit info while its ripping, after its ripped, and all from a tablet - no more PC needed!

No need to bother the dealer, he needn't lift a finger - some have an easy life! Just email Innuos, they'll work out a schedule (there will be quite a few wanting to do this, so will stagger them rather than getting them all back at the same time), arrange a collection from you, do the business, then send it back. Well, after having the locally based Innuos rep in to host a presentation for a few regulars last weekend for the new Innuos servers, all that listened to them were unanimous in agreeing that the Zenith (using triple linear power supply and solid state memory) sounded noticeably superior to the Zen Mini and Zen models. This could now cost me here times as much! Bugger.

Is it a good step up in SQ? What about the cost?

Is it a good step up in SQ? What about the cost? It is surprising the difference it made, despite the fact these were plugged in digitally via USB to the pre (with integral DAC). The basic one is £599/699 (depending on storage), the midrange one £1299/1499, and the top one £1999/2499. The Zenith just seemed tighter and snappier, without any harshness whatsoever, giving it an advantage for long term listening. Even one of our regulars, who is mainly vinyl based and hardly listens to his CDs any more, who was looking to add a Zen Mini to his system to store the CDs he has in one place, decided to go for the Zenith after the demo.
