Do you really want to have anything to do with Friday 13th ??. Luck has to change at some time! As Howard Jones once said, "things can only get better"

Bad luck, David. What projector do you have? Knowing the price of replacement bulbs, is now the time to contemplate a 4K flat screen? For me, UHD is for BIG screens. Up to and including the size I can currently fit in (7ft wide), 1080p is sufficient, particularly from my Mitsubishi HC7000. It's still one of the sharpest looking PJs I've seen, and whilst the contrast ratio is nothing to brag about, it's good enough to serve me for the next year or two while UHD settles down. Plus, I have a fair amount invested in Blurays (coming up to 2,000), which I'm not about to start replacing with 4K versions. I love UHD, but there just not enthusiastic choice out there for me, despite the fact that I watch my favourite films on a regular basis. UHD projectors need to be much cheaper before I'll consider investing in the technology, and I'll need to be in a situation where I can fit a good 10-15ft screen. My last bulb was about £230, which I think they still are judging by a Google search. I'm happy with that as it'll take me through to the end of 2017. I don't want to be spending out big bucks on anything right now anyway, as I'm saving for a special project...

Ah, ok. A friend of mine has just bought an LG 60" 4K set and he's over the moon with it. Says his HD Blu-rays look spectacular with upsampling, so it's not necessary to have source material to enjoy it. I'm still waiting for Sky to start broadcasting 4K.

I agree about the upsampling. I remember seeing my first Bluray on a 4K PJ a few years ago - the Sony VW1000ES - Zodiac looked stunning. So I'd happily buy a UHD PJ for Bluray viewing, but not until it settles down properly, as I'd want to know that any PJ I did buy was going t last me a good 5 years at least.

Looking good, David. What's the 'Oscar' on the left?

Looking good, David. What's the 'Oscar' on the left? Is it not the main character from Metropolis ? Maschinenmensch Mike.

Ooh, nicely spotted. In my defence, I was looking at it on my phone.

It's not the greatest of pics, but then iPhones aren't very good at taking pics in low light situations.

Are the six pairs of shoes a new Russ Andrews tweak I haven't heard about ? The aroma kind of adds something to the sound quality, try it you'll be surprised how much wet walking boots or even wellingtons will add.

Lol, I had to edit my post as I had originally thought it was C3PO I'll probably receive hate mail for this, but despite being a big film fan, I'm not overly keen on the whole Star Wars thing. It just never grabbed me like it did other kids, despite seeing the original at the cinema in '77 - I was more into horror at the time, which was a bit pointless as I was 8 years old, and even if I was old enough to go see horror films, most of the good stuff was banned anyway!

Apologies Martin, not sure why I didn't answer you. I have a Mitsubishi HC7000, which I've had for about 5 years now. It's picture still impresses me with its sharpness, and contrast is good enough although far from current top notch projectors. It's ultra quiet too at -17dB. I originally bought it for its sharpness and how quiet it was, and those aspects still don't disappoint. The bulb cost me £230, so not too bad, and from now on, I think I'll be changing mine after every 2,000-2,500 hours, because the difference the new bulb has made is astonishing!
I'm not currently interested in 4K, and if I was, it'd be for home theatre exclusively - I don't watch a lot of TV, and for the average TV screen, 1080p is more than enough for a good picture. With a PJ I can have a 7ft wide screen, and if I wanted that from a TV it'd cost me a fortune. There's no way I could go down to something like 55" or 65" for movie viewing now as I've enjoyed movies on projectors for about 15 years now.
I've added an SVS SB2000 into the system today - will be a week or so until it settles down and I get levels right. I don't want to use it too much and upset the balance I currently have, I just want it to add in the low stuff for films, but not be too prominent. Soundstaging and detail are great. It's been quite an eye opener having no sub, and whereas I used to highly recommend subs to those who asked if it was totally necessary for home theatre, I think I'll be changing tact a little and finding out more about what people want before doing so in the future.
