There are few things in life that cause me pain, unfortunately computers is one of them, hich is why I use Apple MAc as they are so simple, but even then I struggle with general internet / computer stuff. So here is my latest pain in the arse conundrum that I have been trying to work out for about 30 minutes.
I have allways been using Safari for the internet, in order for me to use Tidal at it's highest quality I had to download Google Chrome, which I did which was simple enough. HOWEVER the pain begins when I cant seem to get Tidal on Google Chrome to play music through my hifi. Tidal works perfectly, albeit lower audio quality, on Safari, but nothing on Chrome . I just don't get it. Any advice would be greatfuly received, but keep it simples. Thanks

I have just had a small measure of success, I have made Chrome my default browser, and Tidal now gives me sound through my laptop, but still no music through the hifi

I'm guessing you will need to set the laptop to output the Tidal stream via USB?

I would have thought that the sound output options would be somewhere in the main system settings. I'm only guessing - no Mac stuff here.

It is, and is set correctly, hence tidal on Safmarine works fine as does iTunes , just not tidal on chrome

How does your Mac connect to your HiFi? Wires, WiFi or magic?
Go to the toolbar at the top of the screen and find the Loud Speaker icon. Click upon it whilst hold the alt key - select Output device which should be whatever means you get to your HiFI with.
When you wish to revert to internal speakers reverse the above action
I have just visited the Tidal site and managed to get to use their player without signing my money to them. I did what advised above and works on my Mac (I use Airplay to go to an output device, but equally if my DAC was via USB it would use that, or via Optical)

Sorry that should say Safari Hence the predictive text question AlanS has your back covered, by the look of it. I felt left out with regard to Tidal, so late last night, and with a quantity of strong ale having been consumed (2 bottles of Spitfire and 2 bottles of Bishop's Finger) I signed up for the Tidal free trial. I then proceeded to instal Ickstream on my LMS server, initialise access to Tidal, sign in and finally browse through Tidal's available material to listen to. The sound quality is very good in my opinion. Noticably better quality than Spotify. I have yet to compare Tidal with material I have ripped from CD, but I expect it will fare very well. I am somewhat disappointed with the lack of material available. For this reason alone I will likely cancel my subscription.

Sorry that should say Safari I am somewhat disappointed with the lack of material available. For this reason alone I will likely cancel my subscription. Well, it depends what you look for, I guess.
I am sure that we have different musical tastes, but for my classical music yearnings Tidal has (I would guess) well over 90% of my 2,500-strong CD and LP collection, including some seriously obscure LPs that I never thought would be available. ... and, so so so much more! I am delightedly gobsmacked at the vast range of material available on Tidal.
But the way the music has been indexed for access by the Tidal search facility is often poor in the extreme, and I have to be quite imaginative in my use of search words to uncover a lot of it.
Give me some examples of stuff you haven't been able to find and let's see if I can unearth it for you.
I quite enjoy the challenge of Tidal searches, I reckon it will help ward off Alzheimers for many years! - but a friend of mine gave up in disgust!

As you have said Jerry, the indexing can be very poor. I've had greater success finding things than I was having - I've now managed to pull in some quite obscure stuff that I have in my collection. My main frustration is the partial coverage that artists get. Tom Waits has been quite prolific, yet the coverage is lacking. The same with Frank Zappa. The Dixie Dregs didn't release a raft of albums, changed their name minorly during the course of the years, and I can't find one of their best albums, What If (1978) at all. I just managed to find Bitches Brew - it didn't come up when I searched using Miles Davis as a search term

Yep, I bet a lot / most of the stuff you want is there, but finding it requires some lateral thinking. I'm fine with that, but others will have less patience in searching. I agree there do seem to be strange gaps, though, and some labels are simply not there at all - e.g. ECM, Hyperion. The way I look at it is I still have the CDs/LPs that Tidal doesn't cover, and my music collection has increased from 2,500 albums to countless tens of thousands that can be explored at the click of a mouse and a few keyboard strokes. I call that a Win.
