They need a proper bloody tranny amp driving them instead of those weedy bottle things you are using on them, bless them Well, they are on a weedy tranny amp at the moment so there. The Firebottle OTL is designed specifically for the Quads so thats out. The Stereo 20 I don't want to leave on all the time so thats out too. The MF A100 lives in the bedroom 2 system so that leaves the A&R (ARCAM) Alpha. Not too bad, 40 watts per channel but the volume control is round at 1 o'clock with not much left in hand. The Pioneer is actually too heavy for my back at the mo, otherwise I would bring that down. Damn thing weighs a ton. The A&R is fed from the tape output on the Creek passive so I can use my best TT and CDP.

I'll have some trannies in the boot so we can give em a proper go. Sue is on to me to cancel our Dordogne campsite (4 days after you) and go straight to the Languedoc (current plans 6 days) because I have said "what if MBC break the habit of a lifetime and don't refuse our planning application?" Being supersticious I would rather leave as is until the 18th, and cross the bridge then.

Being supersticious I would rather leave as is until the 18th, and cross the bridge then. The Dordogne is full of the English, you are supposed to be doing the French thing. Our field offers a semi-permanent parking spot if required. Electricity and water are laid on for the roses and lavender or we even, in an emergency, have a spare bedroom. The Dordogne border is ten minutes drive away!! Six days doesn't sound very long to house hunt. We used to come down for two weeks at a time when we were looking. We used to book the agent for days at a time. I lost count of the places we saw in the end. We were lucky to find the perfect place for us here. Big barn for workshop for me and big field for garden for Ronnie. And BIG rooms for us both

Thanks Gordon. The Dordogne was because we said we definitely WERENT house hunting this year so would do a bit of touristing elsewhere. It was too depressing when we werent in a position to sell our house and move. Then suddenly, our planning agent says the time is right to submit an application, and we might be free to sell from 19 July. In that case we would need to get our finger out house hunting. But I expect the council to refuse the application so we will be going to appeal, and what with tax return season, that probably means moving (starting to look again) in March next year. But if the council surprise me on 18 July, we might rearrange our holiday a lot

I have been developing a higher power OTL and was unsure of the output power I would get with the chosen valves, as I've not used them before. I've made up a test bed and as a monoblock with 4 output valves the output was 60 watts Anyway I hope your travel/move/holiday plans work out, :cool:Alan

Just a test to see if I can insert pics!! Interesting. Maybe its a Mac thing but I have to do it in two stages. First just paste in the code direct to my post. Then edit it and then copy and paste it into the usual image icon!! Still, so long as it works. Gordon, that is as cool as a penguin's cool bits! It's almost worth a trip to France.

Wadya mean - almost? Not that far, you can apperate surely! (oops sorry, been watching that Potter bloke) If you check out the voyager thread there are other technologies you could use, including arriving before you set off. Poor MartinT is experiencing my world when discussing mains. As religions have appreciated since ancient man first stared into the flames of his fire, faith is a powerful thing. I shall be travelling by the more prosaic freelander and effing big caravan method. Perfect for visiting nodrog central. Somewhat more limited for interstellar travel

Gordon, I have just virtually leafed through your album - lovely work and the moggies are cute, too! P Thank you. Flickr used to be just for work but now that I am, in theory, retired, a few other things are getting posted there now I've figured how to post pics into the forums. Its split into albums but I suppose it might be better to start another stream.

ha....just tried to open another Flickr account. First it won't let me have an English one and then it won't let me in at all as I don't have a mobile phone!! Am I the only person in the world who doesn't use one.
Has it become obligatory or do I actually have a choice in this matter?

First time it sent a code to the other half's phone, but I couldn't get back to the original screen the day after 2nd time I borrowed a number from someone at work and got in without needing a code at all Stupid. There must be more than me and Ed with no mobile Find anyone in the UK with a mobile and ask to borrow their number and send you the code if you need it

It's strange. Microsoft lets you do verification using e-mail or mobile phone.

It's the new ways of doing things that throws these people.
They missed out the vital step/s Grab someone off the street who knows nothing and get them to have a go. Then get your Gran or someone else's Gran and get them to try it

The speakers look great Gordon. Up to your usual impeccable construction standards I'm sure.
(about time I embarked on something new to build)

Because I am basically a grasshopper, I tend to get a bit bored with doing the same thing for too long. If I'm being paid real, spendable money, then I put in whatever effort it takes to achieve as near to perfection as I can manage. When its for me, near enough is near enough. These are near enough (but still pretty good cough cough ) Yeah, get on with something, it keeps the mind and fingers nimble.
