I hope everyone is keeping safe and dry in all that weather that's going on at the moment? Not much going on here except a little drizzle every now and then. It's still very warm though.

I'm on holiday in Frinton on Sea, which is north Essex coast. From our holiday flat overlooking the sea we just had an awesome thunderstorm. The family would like a bit more sun so we can get back to the beach !

The weather was spectacular here. Problem is we have overhead power lines, and I have a single hair-trigger RCD on the main consumer unit. The power went out 8 times yesterday, which made working a complete nightmare. I am going to get RCBO's fitted on the board in France, at least on the supply to the office and router

Surely a small UPS is a better solution? I use an APC, been dead reliable every time the power has tripped.

Been various places in the Highlands, weather has been great. A bit overcast today though. Missed out on the nasty weather for a change.

Surely a small UPS is a better solution? I use an APC, been dead reliable every time the power has tripped. A small UPS is a good additional solution I hadn't thought of, so thank you for that. The RCBO thing relates to the nuisance trips we got which weren't storm / power cut derived. It is a nuisance when an earth leak fault on one circuit takes the house down. RCBO's are a much more convenient solution - and much more common on modern boards. In truth though - it happens rarely and is more irritating than a real issue. A good laptop with a docking station, whilst not protecting the router, would be another good solution - especially given I am going to need to be back and forth to the UK - it will be easier than networked software. If we ever get out there - more bloody problems yesterday from the nation that likes to say "non"

I do like a good flash-bang storm! Me too but they nearly always seem to bypass Northumberland and either hang about in Yorkshire or go straight to Scotland !

The rain finally got here overnight. Spray on the motorway this morning was pretty bad. Why is it that some people drive in these conditions without lights? And, furthermore, why are those idiots are always in a silver or grey car? (i.e. the same colour as the road).

You get the two extremes: the ones without lights, and the ones who turn on their fog lights in the rain.

Lots of rain today here in Leeds. Escaping to Ibiza next week - where I'm hoping the weather will be much more favourable!
