I'm Richard . Based in Kent, but fervently hoping to say "based in the Languedoc" soon. I have enjoyed music since a wee tot, but although I play guitar a bit, I am much better at listening to music made by others than making it myself sadly. Made worse by (fairly) recently marrying a beautiful operatic soprano, with an excrutiatingly gifted son, and their various painfully talented friends. So I thought it best to hide away in my records again. I am a good friend of Arthur K of Funk, Owen Jones (formerly of PT) and a few others in the trade, but I am not personally in the trade (count beans for a living). I have been an on&off groupie at Pink Triangle, and went full time on the books as Managing Director there for at least a year - it felt like so much more. Most of my HiFi is cherry-picked Pink Triangle or Funk, or stuff the guys designed, but I have been having a fair old dabble with other stuff recently, including a pair of Lowther Fidelios. A long time fan of QUad ESL's - the 63 on its own, the 57's if I can stack em on top of each other, its gonna take the move to France and a bigger living room to scratch that nostalgic itch. I have been on other forums, and know Martin T and others from there. I have to say Martin I am so impressed with everything about this place, from the manner of your departure from elsewhere, to the cool blue skin, and hope to enjoy chatting to some old friends here. (Mostly love the interface, registration was the best, forgive me if I get a bit confused by the less familiar aspects like "create thread" instead of "reply to thread". It is not impossible I aint doing it right yet, but I learn fast ) Any chance of the emptying glass smiley some time soon, just to make me feel properly at home?

Hello Richard, it's been a while! I didn't know about your wife, anyone I might know? Where in France are you thinking of moving to? Thanks for the feedback! We've tried hard to create a nice environment. Pull up a stool, let's have a chat. We have yet to attack the basic smiley system. The only thing I will say is that some of the less salubrious of them, and the frankly irritating ones, will be given a miss

Thanks Martin. Oops - I over did the adoring husband bit. Sue hasn't received a brown envelope for singing for a couple of years now, and didn't really pursue her career after graduating from Trinity where she studied under John Wakefield. She has sung the Royal Albert Hall, St Martin in the Fields, and any number of Cathedrals, but you wouldn't have heard of her.
We hope to move to the Languedoc. Most of our focus has been around Quillan (due south of Carcassone) but we are also looking up towards Mirepoix. Sue has just pointed out that where the hifi goes is not the SOLE criteria for whether a house is suitable or not. Cue Prof Higgins - "Why can't a woman, be more like a man?"
By all means skip the cheesy smilies, but I loved that draining guiness glass, so I hope it makes it onto the list.

where the hifi goes is not the SOLE criteria for whether a house is suitable or not Seems entirely reasonable to me! Someone I know hereabouts knows I have the same criteria but she has accepted it and very reasonably looks for the listening room in all the floor layouts of houses she fancies

Do I know you? The avatar seems unfamiliar. No oink oink by the wrong pig!! I may yet revert to Perkie. I fancied a bit more class to go with what feels like a much classier forum, and that was one of my "I can take a picture too" pictures with the new camera, when Mrs S started treating me as her "grip" after coming back off a course I bought her for Christmas. It was that or the Orchids. Maybe I'll cycle through a few to confurse!

Welcome Richard. This appears to be the place for ex members of another forum to meet up again. I'm sure nobody here will accuse you of being an objectivist.

Very chic Mike. And promises much. I do hope it thrives and doesn't get derailed by any negativity. It's been a bit eye-opening in my brief recent time on forums how "heated" things can get about a silly bloody record player, and how many high-minded agendas there seem to be. I will do my best to ensure I am not part of that, whilst trying to retain a certain flippancy and dry humour. But loving what I see early on. I've been spreading the word!
(Btw - where have the smilies gone???)
