Interesting thread. Seems a bit guitar heavy:) My list is 1. Snoopy style child piano. 2. Kids xylophone 3. Kids drum kit 4. Recorder 5. Clarinet 6. Spanish guitar of dubious quality:) 7. Washburn 6st, bought when I was 17. Still have it and in great nick / sound 8. Yamaha Clavinova, one of their poshest 9. Simon and Patrick 12st Luthien woodland spruce (like new and actually for sale if any one is interested:) ) 10. Mustn't forget my harmonica and hands free holder, for Nebraska like harmonica wailing solo's! Not a long list but all are / were much loved. Seeing the name Washburn I have to ask if you have piccies. I remember the Washburn Falcon electric being an excellent Les Paul(ish) styled instrument. I wish I had bought one instead of the Gibson SG I bought second hand. I have a feeling I'd still have the Falcon if I'd bought one. The SG was sold on a year or so after it came into my hands.

How could I have forgotten:) Fender bass guitar and Yamaha DX7! I played bass and the Mrs was on keyboards in a band when we lived in Sweden, early 90's... They were the days.

Good old 'DX-7'..
Ive decided to have a shufty around in the Studio, Ive scrapped my big Yamaha Mixer for a all new small Yamaha 'AG06' 24/192 mixer using one Midi controlled. other synths will be VST & Classic Synth samples taken from the original machines via the Ableton DAW 'Sample' software.

Blimey, that AG06 is tiny, although looking at the feature set perhaps "compact" would be a better description. I still run any "live" instruments (and mics) into Ableton through a Line6 UX2.

Now im only using a single M Audio 'Code 49' midi master Keyboard that little Yammi is all i need really. It's a USB 24bit/192kHz mixer which i can use for converting Vinyl to files. which will also retire my Focusrite 'Sapphire' aswell. The Yammi 'AG06' even comes with software allowing you on screen DSP setting, ill get myself an Apple 'I Pad' for that leaving my main PC Moniter free for Ableton The Code 49' is actually a state of the art Midi controller. www.m-audio.com/products/view/code-49#.Vf5usssUXIUusa.yamaha.com/products/music-production/interfaces/ag/ag06/From when i first went on Studio Engineering courses Donkies years ago when MIDI was first coming out it was all so different back then to what it is now.Totally making virtually all hardware you used: masses of synths/Drum Machine/Multi FX units/Samplers/Multi Track & mastering machine etc obsolete. How you can own a top notch sounding studio these days small enough to all sit on a desktop is amazing.. Back to DAW's ive tried a few & much prefer the Ableton 9/Ableton Sampler software..

Same here with Ableton, I've tried loads but it does everything I want and very simply. I always come back to it. I tend to work mostly with MIDI and VSTs these days but I think I need to justify buying all those guitars soon. I use a bog standard Keyrig 49 and a very useful little Keystation 32 mini for VST input duties but that Code 49 looks far too complicated for me.

Do you play in a band Slinger, or is all that gear strictly for home use (and the benefit of your neighbours, of course!)?

My neighbours are indebted to a pair of Sony MDR 7506s most of the time, and the ability to get a good sound out of my guitar amps at low volume.

If i had endless amounts of money would i be using Computer based Studio, MIDI controllers etc.. No i would certainly not, it's actually the polar opposite of what i want to do.Certainly not my ideal..

I've found my next "project" guitar. Sixty quids worth of silliness courtesy of eBay I'm thinking new pickups, probably H90s (which are humbucker sized P90s) and all black hardware. I'm also considering one of these to make it look REALLY silly. I've bought it as "spares or repair" and theoretically the only thing wrong is " a wire needs to be rejoined to the guitars output" but we'll see. Oh, it comes with a " carry case" too, but for £61.01 I'm guessing that's going to be a flimsy bit of plastic. Can't really complain if it is though. Me - I've just bought a new guitar. Wife - Oh no, you haven't, not another one? Me - Look, it's this one. Wife - Hmmm, how much? Me - Just over £60.00 Wife - Oh, well that's all right then. It looks great. Me - Phew!

LOL - I can drop a zero when I buy hi-fi gear and the other half still thinks it's a bit pricy!

Is that a matt black tin opener? (Don't answer that, I know it's really a Bigsby Wobbulator!)

Just grabbed myself one of these on eBay, complete with hard case and apparently never been played outside of the owner's front room. Described as "pristine" by the seller. We'll see.

I do envy you chaps who bothered to practise playing musical instruments with some sense of fluidity. I tinkered with piano and took clarinet lessons at school (the clarinet is still in the loft, along with my tenor recorder which I played at primary school), but I never had the staying power to keep it going. I was more into taking record players apart and messing with those (I had so many shocks as a kid I'm amazed I'm here today!). Being a 'Berlin School' fan, I'd love to have had an analogue sequencer to tune and play against etc.etc...

I remember seeing the Bernie Rico originals a very long time ago in my late teens/early twenties, at Chase Musicians on Oldham Street Manchester (back in the days when it was a shop selling Pro standard gear). The originals were great guitars, and the shapes were thought to be very radical and sexy back in the day. Darren Wharton (Thin Lizzy/Dare) worked there around about that time.
