Hi Martin. Good luck with the forum. I'm John, aka Welder. I live in Catalonia (it's part of Spain but don't say it too loud) I've been an audio enthusiast most of my life. I have a reasonable grasp of principles behind audio reproduction and have built various componants over the years including the speakers I use. I'm completely file based having designed and built my own music server based around a project I undertook with a friend.
I don't like the Hi Fi trade in general (one of the reasons I joined here) and I don't belong to any particular audio camp.

Hello John and welcome to TAS. How is sunny Catalonia? I remember that you're file-based (well, not you personally) so you must give us the benefit of your setup at some point please. Look around, join in!

Thanks Martin. Catalonia, well it's certainly different from England. The part I'm in (Montseny) has the ability to look very appealing but once you've had your first bout of sunstroke, got hopelessly lost up some mountain path and most importantly for me, attempted to work the ground which is as unyielding as rock in the summer, one develops a deep respect for those who have worked the land before and a slight fear of the power of nature, something that is easily forgotten living in more 'civilised" temperate climates. Thankfully, I’m pretty much sorted here now, semi retired for want of a better description. However, I’m still struggling with the having to learn two languages, Catalan and Castilian; not my forte. Oh, I’ll be posting about chickens and duck more than Hi Fi I suspect. I’ll try not to bore everyone. Hi John. How’s life treating you?

Hi John, Welcome to TAS - I hope it's to your taste! No donkeys here though, I'm afraid - you have to bring your own.
