It's pretty common on Hifi forums not to have any friends. I've been on most of them in my time and never had a single one. I'm very happy for it to be that way because it's not like real life. It's a bit more like having Facebook friends. I guess it's different if you meet up and get to know people on a forum but that's a rarity for me.

It's always struck me as being very slightly odd. I have several good friends that I have made on fora but never felt the need to announce it to anyone (least of all them!). Whenever I've received a request to be someone's friend, I accepted it, but have always been somewhat taken aback by it. To me, friendship manifests itself in deeds rather than labels. But then maybe I'm just a bit of a grouch.

I don't have friends. Just a few acquaintances. TBH, I'm happy with that!
At the end of the day I prefer my own company.

Only 1 real friend for me and even then I met him through Hifi. I'd very happily become a recluse and forego all contact with friends, family or anyone. In fact, it's something I aspire to. Hifi lovers can often be a bit reclusive IME although not ebetyone is taut way inclined.

I've got quite a few hi-fi friends, some I actually know as friends and others just via the forums - it's rare that people will use the forum 'friend' feature though as it doesn't have any real purpose (in fact none that I can think of).

I agree that the forum friend facility does nothing, but I've met and consider to be friends a good handful of members here. I try always to remember that there is a real person behind every 'handle'.

Yeah, I quite agree. My comments are only relating to the forum software feature, not the value of actual friends .
