Just as a final point; when I got the amplifier, the seller threw in plenty of QED 79 strand anniversary cable. In another forum [yes I like to get as much information as I can] the wire has been trashed by no less than four advisers. Yet What High Fi Loved it! What are you kind gentlemen's opinion's on this please? To be clear - do you mean '79 strand' or 'Silver Anniversary' cable? I think they are two different things. If you mean the latter (and yes, What Hi-Fi do seem to love it), then my best advice to you is to give it to someone else. Actually, if you pay someone else to take it away, you are likely to be considerably better off. Time and time again, people buy this cable on the strength of WHF liking it and then think they need to make fundamental changes to their equipment because they find it harsh, bright and brash. Several of us have persuaded them to try changing it for other cable and it has often saved them a change of a major component. However, their first reaction has been just like yours - it can't be that bad because WHF rave about it. My answer to that is that I can only think of one case where someone has done the experiment and decided to stick with the SA cable. If you decide to keep it, then please don't plug it into Monitor Audio loudspeakers!
Also, I'd suggest that you don't dismiss standmounters. At the lower end of the budget scale, many floorstanders are little more than a standmount model from lower in the range but built into a bigger, but very cheaply built box. What you can end up doing is effectively putting a bookshelf speaker on a flimsy wooden stand.

I think that the speakers you have called Hitachi Towers are actually SVS Ultra Towers. Luckily, they don't seem to be a building in Singapore.

Another question for you, I'm afraid. Do your domestic requirements mean that you have to place speakers up against or close to the wall? How do you feel, for example, about having speakers up to a metre away from both the rear wall and the side walls?

Apart from the photos, I don't think we know what your system consists of - model names/numbers would stop us guessing. (Or did I miss the list? - you have two threads running covering the same subject)

I totally agree with Chris thoughts on the QED silver anniversary I suggest that the person got rid of it for a reason and it seem to be something where most of us agree about which is rare Of course it is your choice

Didn't realise your price range before but my choice still stands. If you want to spend loads the Frugels is where my money would also go.

Thank you. Can I ask what the Little Bear P51 offers that the MF doesn't do on its own?

Have a look to at Rega RS3's or RS5's if budget allows. 2nd hand can get a bargain with these.
the 3's are great speakers, better suited to medium to smaller rooms, but in that setting hard to beat in my experience.

Edit: I see from the July 16th 4.47 post on "cables at last", that the rusty barbed wire was QED SA - which I take to be "Silver Anniversary". In which case " +1 ". Almost anything, including 6A or 10A mains cable, with or without orange sheathing, is going to be better than that. QED 79 strand is buttons and perfectly acceptable. Silver Anniversary appears to be some twisted joke from my one experience of it. (PS : Mods - it would be so much better if the software gave a sequential number to posts for x-ref purposes)

Thank you. Can I ask what the Little Bear P51 offers that the MF doesn't do on its own? It warms the sound up Chris, making it more fluid and sweet. It's never easy to describe sound in words, but that is the best I can do. CD's played through the two units sound like vinyl, neither convinces me on it's own, but then I may be fooling myself. If I am it does not really matter does it? I never argue with myself.

I have heard them gazjam! To my ears they did not successfully convey enough weight to my 'Arabs in Aspic' album. Which as you are probably aware, has monster bass compared to most other albums. To this end, I have, this very morning ordered some of this:- www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391129685291?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=660482770449&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITI will be sure to let you all know how I get on with my little experiment when it is in situ.
