Sometime between now & 9 am there is going to be a report on the Today rogramme on Radio 4 which deals with listeners comments, experiences and impressions of DAB radio. (.....and later on the iplayer)

Well, that was a bit of a damp squib, so apologies for wasting your time! A few comments from dissatisfied users and a rebuttal from an 'expert'. Nothing new here.

Does anyone here use DAB at all?

I have it in the car but usually stick to FM for radio 2 as it sounds better and actually is quicker at finding stations. If Five live and Six were on FM it would serve no useful purpose. Scrapping DAB would likely save more money than BBC3.

My car radio is DAB/FM/AM(MW and LW). I generally use DAB there and usually have no problems other than changing transmission cell when you can get a rather irritating 2 second repeat. That is particularly irritating when following a road which keeps switching cell with the repeat every minute or two. But my listening in the car is almost entirely R4.
Our Roberts Radio in the bedroom is DAB, and is again just fine.
Neither of those is for critical listening. But like all early adopters, you end up with a poor system with DAB. Same back in the day with NTSC (Never Twice the Same Colour) and PAL. The USA was first and got a lousy TV standard, and the UK was later with PAL and got a decent TV standard.
But the kitchen system uses FM from a roof aerial, and the main system now uses a Transporter streamer with internet radio (although I do have a backup with an Accuphase tuner).

I used to use DAB and found it better than FM, HOWEVER I now live in a fringe reception area where FM is poor and DAB keeps dropping out. For me therefore the only thing that works at decent quality is internet radio.

That's a neat looking little unit Stan. It looks from the spec. to be pretty much a tablet which got chunky from swallowing a couple of speakers!

I've seen these before and you've reminded me of them. They look perfect for bedroom/kitchen duties etc.

It is mains operated, but also has a rechargeable battery inside.

I have DAB in the car and it's pretty much useless here in the West Country. The coverage is so poor vast swathes of three counties are dead spots. Took some realising how tight the DAB transmission paths are, 10metres along the road is the difference between good and no signal. Touted new transmitters planned just have not appeared in the past 2 years.

Bought my mum a DAB radio yesterday - it's a cheap stereo John Lewis own brand one and am rather impressed. The sound was way better on DAB for Radio 3 & 4 where she lives. But a neighbour of hers bought a very expensive Vita Audio DAB radio which sounded much better on FM...
I wouldn't swap my old Toshiba FM tuner for either though!
