hi pop-pickers , i'm afraid i don't do 'bake-offs' or NEBO's , but what i do enjoy is to go up to my 'den' on the top floor , crack open a few 'tinnies ' and enjoy tha company of Dire Straits , Kate Bush etc..... i have been to a couple of hi-fi shows lately , but i'm afraid that after a couple of visits to the various rooms , i am bored !! i love to play my own system and my own choice of music , and the thought of spending a night with a dozen or so semi-strangers swapping & changing gear just does not appeal to me at all . at the moment i am listening to the Roksan pre with the Quad 520 f power amp thrught a pair of 'cobbled up Castle Harlech's and my little 'cheapie' Trio turntable and enjoying the music as much as i do with the much more expensive stuff that i own . i guess i am just an anti-social , miserable git (another Victor Meldrew!!)

Here's a proper TAS welcome from me too. Having more than one system is a treat that some of us are lucky enough to enjoy. That Quad 520f is a good amp. I owned one for a while but barely ever used it. When I agreed to sell it to a friend, I checked it was working in my system and was rather shocked at how good it was suddenly sounding! Cheers

One of the things I like about bake offs is finding new music, I find myself always pulling out my phone to take note of good albums etc.

Agreed, both, new music always goes in my list. I enjoy the camaraderie and lack of pressure in small group get-togethers, it's always music first.

..... i have been to a couple of hi-fi shows lately , but i'm afraid that after a couple of visits to the various rooms , i am bored !! i love to play my own system and my own choice of music , and the thought of spending a night with a dozen or so semi-strangers swapping & changing gear just does not appeal to me at all . Last few times I went to the shows I felt the same, and to my ears even the really expensive systems didn't sound much better than my own. Interesting to see new products though.

I'm not sure, but I don't think I've ever been to a hifi show. Will rack brains .....
Get togethers are just right for me. I'm often looking for an improvement as well as hearing music I like reproduced as good as possible

Shows can be fun if you take them as they are and don't expect the room acoustics to sound much good.

Krellman Im just the same, Bake off's & bore me to tears. as do other peoples views of system building/listerning. Nothing will ever be as enjoyable as your own stereo imho, same with music i cannot stand to listern to other taste in music other than my own. I also believe taking notice of what other people do is a very dicey passtime lol..Your own way is the best way..leave that to the sheep Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.. I too am a miserable git.
