I was using a Gen1 Apple TV as main source but Bit the Bullet and purchased a MacMini, it is hooked up to my Dac (Audiolab 6200 CDQ) via USB and my display is my 55" TV LOL, will use remote for audio control, got a cheap keyboard but it is terrible so going to have to get the proper apple keyboard and trackpad.
Does anyone else have experience with Mac and iTunes as source, in Midi control I have set source as 44.1kHz as I wanted to be output same as source file but I can only seem to set the output to 24Bit as far as I am aware the Bit depth should not hurt if Im using 16 but source files as I believe they Mac will just pad the data, anyone know any different ?

I have used a Mac Mini as my exclusive source for the last four years. I use iTunes as my music library and have done for more years than I care to remember. I have around 500 CDs imported into iTunes and additionally I have around 11000 iTunes Store downloads. I hear no difference whatsoever between ripped CDs and 256K AAC resolution iTunes Store purchases and now with the advent of Apple Music, I am just loving it. I have discovered more new music in the last fortnight than in the last five years.
You can set the sound output to 16 bit 44.1KHz using the pop up menus in the audio midi setup utility.
The Mac Mini/iTunes experience is very good indeed. You won't look back. and despite the complete utter bollocks spouted all over the place about sound quality, I can assure you that iTunes produces Hi-Fi sound...be in no doubt about that.

In my midi setup on My DAC tab I can only set to 24Bit I think it has something to do with the DAC itself but I have it set to 44.1 as all my stuff is ripped Lossless (ALAC) from CD I have 2081 albums 663GB on there. Really Like the iTunes Experience and Genius Mixes especially excellent way to listen to music, I like the new Auto Genius Mix Command it latest itunes. I know it is a HiFi source I have been using a Gen1 Apple TV for years, just wanted more playback flexibility. Im in no doubt about the Credentials, I was in the Listening room of a British HiFi manufacturer, they were doing bling listening trials for research purposes and they were using a MacMini for source feeding their DACs, they said its easy to get untouched digital audio out of a Mac than it is from a PC, I was sold. I have the iPhone Remote App too that is really good so you don't even need a display on, was thinking of getting an iPad as a remote but that is a bit of overkill.

I use my iPad as a remote for my own system. It is a bit of an overkill solution if that's all you'd use it for, but iPads come in handy for all sorts of stuff. Wouldn't be without mine now. Interesting bit about the hi-fi manufacturer using Mac Minis
