Crosleys might be helping record sales but they certainly are not a good thing for sound or disc preservation. Neither is this. Frankly in the long run they will put a lot of people of vinyl.

I assumed downforce, or in this case backforce(!!!) would be applied either with a spring or a magnet somewhere in the bearing housing.

That arm could only work if perfectly balanced otherwise it would 'fall off' as it swings towards the centre.
