There are one or two I'd very much like to meet face to face, just to see if they would still say the same things about me to my face you understand..

There's a medical condition that I invented that I call 'internet autism'. It's a failure to recognise that you are dealing with real people with real social interactions on forums just as much as if you met them face to face. Most forum trolls don't behave that way away from their keyboards. Many/most of the forum trolls are actually decent folk when you meet them, in my experience! Can't see how they are "decent folk" if they are prepared to say those things in the first place.. I was brought up to treat people with courtesy and respect, I do so whether face to face or via keyboard.

I think it would be even funnier to see them in court - which they threaten often enough. "All wind and piss" as my old man would say. Rumour has it they are pitching to take on George Lucas and THX woth their usual wildly inaccurate "facts" - but I couldn't see it in the 30 seconds I was prepared to spend looking. The idea of THX trying to shill forums to put NVA out of business is about as credible as [MOD: name removed] replacing Sir Alex Guinness as Obi wan Kenobi in the next Star Wars - but I wouldnt want to be on the wrong side of THX corporate lawyers with only Dubiously Qualified by my side. Anyway I'm off to stand in a metal bucket of water to play a bit of hum free guitar (or should that be in the heatwave thread?) Or all that REmains again? (See what I mean about never knowing where to post?? These forums are so confusing)

Not everyone from the forum I think you're talking about is banned from lots of other forums. We have some members here whose contributions I appreciate. It's a pity that these intr forum issues can't be laid to rest. Hifi enthusiasts who post on forums are a relatively small group and the cliques and historic rivalries just spoil things IMO. Be happy to lay them to rest if said people would stop posting lies about others, and saying things that would get your lights punched out in a pub.

Ah Tiswas - happy days. It reminds me of the origins of that phrase "all wind and piss" which Dad used not infrequently for bullshitters. It's equally silly - Dad knew dozens of verses, (as he did for the "Good ship Venus") but these are the few I can remember I'll tell you a story that's certain to please Of a great FARTING CONTEST and Shitham on Tease Where all the best arses paraded in fields Competing in contest for various shields Old Mrs Jones was backed for a place For she'd often been placed in the deepest disgrace She'd farted in church, and drowned the big organ And gassed the poor verger, old Marmaduke Morgan Now old Mrs Smith thought nothing of this For she'd had some weak tea, and was all wind and pissWith hands held on hips, and legs stretched out wide, She unfortunately shitted and was disqualified (Dad could go on, but sadly that's as far as I remember)

This thread needs a bit of a tidy-up, I think.

Can we get back to discussing the reasons why people leave forums? It's beginning to get a little too specific and will end up as forum-bashing if we're not careful.

I think it already has ended up as forum bashing. Not good.

Some leave on a point of principal, when they feel there is no other option open to them.

It's the ones who flounce off and then come back that make me giggle. If you're going to go, then go!

Don't even bother reading there anymore, maybe I should, if only for the amusement factor.. Ali, you are right not to read there anymore. Your good character was seriously attacked by the owner and his sycophantic followers. What they said bears no resemblance to the honourable man I personally know you to be. After I got a temporary ban for apparent Ad Hominen or whatever it is they call it, I never signed back in. I then lurked for a while but in the end the constant focus on attacking others on other forums together with the overall negativity just ground me down and I found not going there gave me a much better daily feeling. I am much happier in myself not feeding my mind with negative material based on obsessive hatred and discontent. For a while, it was amusing to read the threads but then I became oppressed by the overall negative impact on me. Best thing I've done recently is to stop going there.

Back on thread then, I guess at least 3 I can think of I have drifted away from because I didn't get engaged for whatever reason. (PFM and DIY Audio I only really joined ages ago from a google link looking for J Westlake and A Jones, or maybe it was Pip repairs). The Wigwam I have been back and had another go at posting on recently but I get lost in there. Things move so fast, and there's just so much. AOS I got booted for a run-in with Marco, but we kissed and made up on here. Following another "close call" I have struggled to get going again - so its a Dark Side of the Moon job ("I havent really got anything to say") [MOD: forum name removed], the subject of recent posts on this thread, I'm not quite sure whether I'm actually banned or not, but when, with Slingers help, I had a few goes at logging on somewhere in the passwords and anti-bot tests I just couldnt make it happen, and frankly wasn't that bothered. I only really wanted to log on to deal with the gentlemen direct on a few of their laughable inaccuracies, but now login troubles have prevented it I wouldnt bother again, since the hugely biased moderation makes it pointless. Basically Dunn either discretely deletes anything he disagrees with or resorts to visible moderation in the form of "Ad hominum" (meaning "you have not just accepted my <<facts>> but continue to disagree with me) or "Unwarranted attack on NVA" (meaning "you have demonstrated convincingly with evidence that I am wrong"). I see Wonky got nowhere correcting errors and Dunn resorted to deleting his own posts which Wonky demonstrated were wrong. That's it so far

Whatever happened to "What goes on elsewhere does not concern us. We have asked that all baggage be left at the door, and that goes for us too." guys? Forum rulesSeems to me like it's getting a bit specific whereas the O.P.s thread title is a more general in nature. Perhaps someone would like to start a thread entitled " Why [MOD: forum name removed] members are all Nazis and [MOD: name removed] is The Antichrist?"
