Hi all;
Some nine months after digging out my old Awia turntable I've now decided to buy a modern turntable! Don't want to spend a fortune and I keep reading what a good turntable the Pro-Ject Essential II is for the price. Has anybody ever used one? Any opinions valued, although I've probably started this thread too late, as I've already pushed the 'order' button!

Which Aiwa deck do you have? I ask because it's possible that a Pro-ject Essential II may not be as good as the average old school Japanese turntable.

I don't think I have ever heard a system with on in it but there's no reason why it shouldn't be a very competent device. It comes with a fairly good cartridge and seems good value for money. I suppose many of us here would spend that sort of budget on something secondhand but if you want a fully complete new deck, then it's probably a great choice. I think it likely that it will give of its best if you are able to take care with where you put it. A strong wall shelf might be your best option.

I think, in this case the Project will beat the Aiwa Martin. See below for build quality

Fair enough, I thought it might be one of their direct drives.

After much fiddling with the tonearm counterweight, managed to get it set-up. Very pleased with the sound - looks nice too in red. For £210 seems well worth the money.

Yes, will post a few pictures later Martin.
Interesting read Jerry, thanks. After assembling mine I've realised I'm left with a small plastic wheel, a tiny Allen key (which I'm thinking might be the device to change the belt that you mention in your review?) and a tiny double-holed washer. No idea what these are for!

No idea what these are for! Oh no! Those are crucial to the performance of the deck.
... only kidding, I have no idea!
