I witnessed several systems with them in yesterday - what was the rest of the system you're referring to Chris?

In my case it was the one downstairs in the Funk Firm room.

Yes, I thought that might have been the one - both Steve and I thought that one gave one of the best results of the day. We got a superb rendition of Autumn Leaves by Cannonball Adderley and an utterly compelling reading of Coal Train by Hugh Masakela. It put some far more expensive lash-up to shame, frankly.

Many thanks for the interesting comments gents. Think I shall stick to my AN Ks. The synergy I've built up really is quite nice and they do work well with all my amps. Just a wee bit day dreaming really...

To expand on the system it was the Funk Firm TT pitched at the £1400 price point. It appeared to be dragging an Ortofon 2M Red at the end of its arm.
Phono stage was Music First Audio, which may or may not be designed and built by Nick Gorham (I forgot to ask him). Switching and attenuation was a Music First Audio transformer jobbie. Couldn't tell you what the monobloc power amplifiers were, apart from they were valved and sounded modern. I think they were push-pull. At the end of that list were the AN Ks.
Initially I thought the sound was just a touch warm (and I mean the tiniest touch), but the system communicated so well it was very soon forgotten about.

The power amps were John Howes modified Quad II monoblocks.

That Hugh Masakela album is one I have and love. Its expensive, but well worth the money. The reason I left the room was to grab my purchases from Diverse Vinyl before they packed up and went back to Newport. Otherwise I might have remained for some considerable time further ......

Those Elac towers look great value for the money, based on what I've heard of the small ones.
