I have finally acquired one of my 'holy grail' recordings - Decca SXL6721 - Bach Partita no 2 / Sonata no 3 - Kyung-Wha ChungMost of the copies I have seen of this lp have been well outside my price range and whilst this was the most I have ever spent on a single lp, it was in relative terms a bargain. The ebay seller, based in Amsterdam, picked an odd time to end the auction which luckily must have put a few punters off ... The Partita is simply heaven sent. Chung plays it with such nobility and precision, but with a passion and fluidity that doesn't seem at odds with the Baroque nature of the work. She really is at the peak of her powers on this 1975 recording, which possesses an ideal mix of warmth and clarity. I was a bit nervous about the playing surface, since it's just solo violin, but a quick spin on the RCM has rendered it near silent. Happy days ...

I would say it is unlikely - I looked for it on cd at Amazon and it says that the Partita is included in some Bach compilations but whether it is this version or a later one, who knows ...

You're a bad influence! I'm supposed to be being good until we complete our French house purchase, but this keeps nagging me. Rub salt in - what did you pay for it?

If we ever meet, don't admit to my wife who you are. I've just done an Oscar Wilde. My excuse, and I'm sticking to it like sh1* to a blanket is that I need a morale boost sitting here with a sore eye from a rejecting corneal graft, and she has just dumped a "friends" mess on my desk to sort out (which will comfortably pay for the Partita).

I found several at between £150 and £300, but I had spotted one from Italy on Discogs from a vendor with a good reputation, graded "Near mint" for E85 (including the postage). It's on its way! Looking forward to a listen
