In response to several requests, we have added the ability to control the display of avatars and animated GIFs.
Go to Profile > Edit Profile > Settings. Scroll down to Show GIFs. Here you may untick Mini Profiles if you want to disable animated GIFs from showing against members' posts, and you'll get a black rectangle instead. There are other options for signatures etc.
In the same area, you may also completely disable signatures or avatars with Show Signatures and Show Avatars. You may even disable smilies. All of these features will also speed up display of the forum, useful if you're on a slow broadband or dial-up connection.
