Yep, RS2.5, in fact - nowhere near as fancy as those twin towers, though.

Chris, spot on.
Sorry about the pic with the footballers. Just me being too lazy to straighten up the chaos round the system right now in order to take a current pic. I agree about the footballers. Do you have a preference for which team needs to be on the screen this time?
Im heading down to Bridgewater right now to go and play trains. Well actually to get to grips with setting up digital control system to operate 42 doors on a model roundhouse. If I'm still sane when I get home, I'll ramble on about the IRS 1b for a while. It was a very very good speaker system and, as far as I know, it's still doing good service somewhere in Poland.

How about a scene from Game of Thrones? Preferably Cersei being a bitch (pretty much any scene, then)?

I spoke with you following his introduction to discuss possible purchase of the big Focal speakers.

OK, back home from playing with computers and trains.
IRS 1b, as many of you guessed. Driven by Audio Research Classic 120 Monoblocks for mids and highs and Chord 1400E for bass units using Infinity feedback controller for bass signal.
The good: one of the best combinations of very fast ribbons with great dynamics and quite extended bass.
The bad: they are very big, particularly when I also used a pair of Infinity model 9s for the rear speakers in surround.
Worse: the bass units just couldn't keep up with the ribbons so the crossover was very obvious and the system lacked integration.
Nevertheless, it could make very musical sounds and play loud.
Had them for a few years until I decided to go over to a dynamic box speaker: one gaining a good reputation for throwing a very good image and coming from a factory out in the western part of the US. Watt's that, I hear you ask! How do the puppies get on with the cats? Any guesses?

Shout me down if I'm spoiling your story here, but we've not heard much about the front end from early on. If you're planning to come back to it later, then that's great, but I'm wondering what was the cd player that convinced you to do away with a Goldmund turntable?

Bought these Wilson Watts and Puppies 5.1 used from Jon Harker at Oxford Audio Consultants. Sold the Infinities and the Audio Research amps and the Chord Amps.
Sold one of my Ferraris and took part payment in the form of a pair of Pass Labs x1000 monoblocks so the Wilsons seemed like a perfect match with the Pass Labs.
Wilsons were very dynamic and threw a holographic image in front of the speakers. Gone was the delicacy and see through transparency of the Martin Logan's but instead I had this really solid soundstage and a very dynamic sound.
Tweeters were a bit "hot" ( sound wise, not stolen!) so I replaced the tweeters with the later series 6 tweeters which certainly helped. Crossovers modded to suit the new tweeters. Being very curious, I opened the speakers up and replaced the wadding with angel air and did some tweaks to the internal cabling as well as replacing the puppy tails with Vertex links. With the mods, a very good speaker.

I thought I'd drag out the plot a bit and come back to the front end evolution and to how the amplification developed and so on. With a bit of luck I could keep this going til Christmas. actually that's not fair to you, so let me answer that specific. I got quite disillusioned with vinyl. Yes, the Goldmund was a fine turntable, the Breuer arm and Kiseki Agate were excellent. I had somewhere over 5000 Los but honestly I found vinyl a bit of a faff. Record noise on some of my favourite music was intrusive; I was lazy about filing records in order and I was also spending a lot of time travelling to the U.S. And to the Far East.when I got home I wanted simple selection of music which I could just play. My cd transport at the time was a Krell 20 which was not in the same sound league as the Goldmund but was a pretty good cd. Later I had 2 of the Krell players, one in my UK system and one in the system in my house in Boston. The U.S. System was quite good with a big Classe power amp, Audio Research pre and Alon floor standers. Not quite up to my UK system but it did sound very good. anyway, back to the speaker saga

The Wilsons were impressive. But I never quite got past feeling I was listening to an impressive Hifi system rather than listening to music. That feeling might be due to the slight hardness which emphasised detail but never really let you feel you were "there". then, one day replacements for the Wilson just fell into my lap. Here they are. Anyone car to have a guess as to what they are?

Sorry for being pedantic but going back to the opening post, it's Heals cabinet not Healds You are correct. Apologies for the mistake. Nice cabinet though. I hope the people that stole it from my flat didn't make too much of a mess of it. Took the cabinet and equipment but left 2 valuable Leica cameras that were sitting right next to it. That's your Liverpool thief for you.
