Rotel 965BX. Well-built & read everything without missing a beat, but nowhere near as good as the sentiment online suggests. Smooth-sounding though.

Had one of those as my first player, bought it based on the hype at the time...didn't like it much. returned it for a Pioneer PD8700 stable platter jobbie, much better.

I managed to hold out until 1988 before embracing silver disc. A decision brought about by Deutsche Grammophon's announcement that any future new releases would be confined to CD!
A toe dipped lightly into the digital waters, saw a Sony 557ES CDP join my system. It was a solidly built beast and was listenable, but clearly outclassed by my vinyl front end of that era, an Oxford Accoustics Crystal Reference tt/SME V/Koetsu Red Signature m/c.
I rapidly graduated through a succession of Meridian players (200 & 500 series) until I bought a Reimyo CDP777 in 2004. Here, at last was an audiophile-grade CD player that could hold it's own against a good analogue front end.
It took the dCS Paganini transport + DAC to find something a step up from the Reimyo (not a large leap, but I became concerned about sourcing replacement parts for the Reimyo after they discontinued the excellently engineered JVC transport mechanism).
I would say that, with the acquisition of the dCS kit, digital has dominated my music replay of choice, since 2009. I replaced my analogue front end (after 21 years of happy ownership) in 2010 and simplified my record playing setup to the TW Raven One/Graham Phantom II/Transfiguration Orpheus L I still have today.
My recent purchase of a dCS Vivaldi DAC has only consolidated CD/SACD as my premier source.
