There some settings on the Oppo if memory serves me right in Audio that effect sound Also could be your output setting on the Oppo which I think is in Audio The Bushmaster will certainly play files from the Oppo I have done this in the past without any issues If using files the Oppo has no issues with either FLAC or WAV Electricbeach who sometimes posts here uses a Oppo so he maybe able to explain settings better than I can

I am not sure the Bushmaster will play DSD based files you have to see if you can change the output on the player

You will need to get the Oppo to transcode DSD to PCM before the Bushmaster can play it. DVD should be fine - perhaps you have left the S/PDIF output stream set to Dolby surround? Turn that off too, as the BM2 needs 2-channel stereo.

I followed the herd on BM, added battery, then Caiman, then upgrade chip Delighted People with ears said it was good kit and I voted with my wallet

The Caiman-II with V6 firmware running from a 12V battery is exceedingly good on an absolute scale, let alone for its price. You could base a properly good system on it.
