Would the leadership be opposed to members swapping tapes as a way of introducing our tastes to one another?
I know it's illegal but so is speeding and I'm passed many times every day as I'm not risking my licence

As a consenting adult, you may do whatever you want (legal or not is up to you) in the comfort of your own home, but for this site to support that, it would be seen as illegal file sharing and it is rather more serious for us than for the individuals. Take a look at what happened to Grooveshark just the other day.
So the answer to your question is that we would be opposed to that. Sorry.

Swopping cassttes is illegal, but there is no reason that members can't share playlists or even Spotify playlists. Any streaming service where PRS/PPL is paid is cool

Yes, that's fine and we would definitely support swapping playlists with no actual media content. Spotify playlists are very easy to assemble and publish:

Interesting playlist, I understand they have tracks by people other than John McLaughlin too!

That's our Album Choice playlist, added to once a month with the next member's choice. It's building into a nice collection across the spectrum.

They are bodies who collect and distribute licence fees for musicians.
