Hope to be if I don't go all knackered before 2pm I ought to come over anyway ....... 137 will probably be ok for one trip So don't need a card then ?

I took my SD card out, got about 130 albums in today after updating it. With a card, you can have more than you will reasonably need on a trip.

Yes, I may have got a little carried away there with my enthusiasm for a card, it's just that for the trip we're taking, I've got to get enough music to sustain us for about 3,000 miles of driving as well as the flights!

I may go on using it but it is only for the one trip so far and the ripping time has to be accounted for

1 day a week to work and back, 20 miles total
CD player probably doesn't have an input and I have CDs aplenty

Your CD player may play mp3s, many do. Which means you could fit many albums on one disc.
