Last time I bought a new car, very many years ago, Saab said they didn't supply ICE as people buying this sort of car wanted to choose their own. Truth or cop out ?
An excuse to get a Nakamichi system !

Listening to Radio Paradise this morning, I was thinking "it still sounds shit".

This is not an area in which I want to compete!

I'm in the process of swapping out the stereo in the Merc. It's proving remarkably difficult!
Going to fit a Pionees head unit, see how that goes then maybe consider new speakers.
TBH I think I'll quit after the head unit goes in as it's been so difficult!!

I should get a new head unit, really, but it's somewhat down on my list of things to buy.

I would prefer an Android head unit with Android Auto so that I can feed it whatever I like from my phone. There are lots of Chinese units available, one of which is featured in the BRZ forum. You would be best to ask in one of the many BMW forums.

I have bought (given to wife to give me back on Christmas Day ) a Kenwood DAB receiver with Spotify app built in , also plays FLACs etc , no CD I didn't want one . KMM-BT505DAB Digital Media Receiver with Bluetooth & DAB+ Tuner Built-in. Digital Media Receiver | DAB+ Radio | Bluetooth HF & A2DP | iPhone/iPod | Spotify | USB | AUX | 2 Preouts | Remote App & Music Mix App ready. No doubt there will be a few connection adjustments .

Yes the BMW systems seem pretty good. AFAIK it's just the standard system in mine, but it is very good as these things go.

Fitted the Kenwood (see above post) today , all went well . It came with a DAB screen aerial that I had to remove a couple of bits of trim to thread the wire through . The analogue aerial lead needs an adaptor but no need I'll only be using digital (excellent reception btw. ) . Spotify works from my iphone and displays track info so do FLAC files from a USB stick . Very pleased and it was only £114 .

I finally had it with the steaming pile of manure that is the Subaru Starlink head unit. I've just ordered an Eonon GA2176 Android 9 head unit with Subaru fitting kit. Should be fun to install (!) and hopefully will allow me to use Waze, Spotify, Radio Paradise and Torque, my favourite Android apps, direct on the touch screen.

That looks rather tasty, Martin. We'll never get you out of the car once it's installed.

Speaking as a non-driver I don't know if that's competitively priced or not, but even I understand ninety-four quid off.

I've completed stage 1 of my car audio revamp by replacing my door speakers and dash tweeters with the rather nice Focal IS165TOY kit (made for the BRZ/GT86). These replacement woofers and tweeters took about two hours to complete and the sound is in another dimension from the pathetic noises the previous speakers used to make. When I removed the old drivers I laughed at the magnets on them, about the size of a 2p coin.
I now have musical communication and a modicum of bass at last. Android head unit next.
