Inevitably my recent rediscovery that speaker cables can make a huge difference has created an "itch".
It's many years ago, but I remember a pair of Snell Js on the end of a Voyd and 2nd Audio's sounding breathtaking. The cable was Audio Note and I made a mental note to try it some day. I wouldn't buy new because the stuff is expensive and devalues as soon as you buy it.
Im wondering if anyone on here has any experience of any of the Audio Note cables, good or bad. I will be looking at two 8 metre lengths minimum so I might be limited to their cheaper cables, unless the madness overtakes me........again. Whilst I am itching for Audio Note, I'd welcome any other recommendations.
Just for reference, here are some of the cables I've tried so far. As you will see, they are mostly older ones:
DNM: clear but no drive Rega Quarttro: weak, weak, weak. linn K20: Luscious and enjoyable. Could be a bit more detailed. mission multi: nothing to get excited about. Capable but average. naim A4: inferior to K20 Naim A5: Clearer than K20 but not as enjoyable. Cable Talk 3.1: A poor man's A4 Exposure: liked this a lot until I got K20. Still a great cable. supra 4. Excellent, clear neutral but enjoyable. When K20 doesn't work, this tends to be a good alternative. NVA LS1,3,5: Odd sounding to my ears. Seems to have significant lack of air and presence. Just didn't get on with it at all NVA LS6: Much better and great clarity. Just not as musical as K20 or other dumbell cables NVA LS2: OK so it's a cheap cable but my Spicas love it and it works well with Exposure. Hearing it with the Campion has put me off. Tulsa Arrow. Probably the "best" overall cable I have tried. Bigger and clearer than K20 with equal musicality. Lovely rich bass.

I found NVA LS6 to be very good and up there with the more expensive TQ Ultra Blacks that I use, so it's good value for money.

I use LS3 , But i do use NVA amps. It was much better than 8 or 9 i had used before .
on a point of fact .LS1 and LS6 use the same raw cable , LS6 as more strands of the cable and additionally 28 strands off silver cable .
LS2 is not strictly speaking an NVA cable [ ie - it does not use the raw cable used in all but tis cables ] It is the cheapest cable sold and it is actually and electrical installation cable . It is sold to new amp buyers to get them started in view of nva' insistance for purpose of warranty that nva cable is used .

The best I have heard yet with my ANKs was the one I tried in the "follow on from anti cables" thread. Can't find the seller on eBay just now but the link in that thread will point you in the right direction. This cable I found to provide stunning detail and it seemed to be utterly transparent - well, well worth a try.

Thanks Chris. I will keep an eye out for the sellers return. It's not a lot of money to try this cable and I can always sell on if I don't like it.
I really would love to try LS7 cable (which only uses lots of the expensive strands from LS6). The differences between Ls5 and Ls6 were massive. The extra ingredient in the LS6 makes one heck of a difference and getting rid altogether of the LS1/3/5 base cable would, I'm sure, give fine results.
The lengths I need just make it an impossibility to run LS7 though, because the costs would exceed my entire system. I also change gear too much to spend huge sums on cable. Experience has taught me that what works with one amp and speakers will not always work with another. differences aren't small or subtle either.

I think to a degree cables can be a system dependent A few year ago a friend brought their speakers and cables around. With his speakers his speaker cables were excellent and my cables were quite poor. But with my speakers the result were opposite The speakers were very different Frugel 3 and big Open baffles I love to have the time and money to find the Optimum cables are for my system. But neither have the resources or time to do so

I am delighted that I have not been able to hear the difference between a number of speaker cables - it must have saved me a potential fortune over the years!

LS7 was directly comparable, with a slightly different balance of attributes, but LS6 was quite close and even better VFM.
I posted LS6 & LS7 reviews on AoS, but because of the deliberate trashing of many of my threads and posts it's probably gone and I can't be bothered to go looking. Their loss.

I remember reading those reviews. Pity if they have been lost. Ultimately I found LS6 to be musically less satisfying than other cables even though it was very capable sonically. I just found myself listening less because I didn't relax with it in my system. From what you say, LS7 may not be significantly different in this respect. Good news really, as my only chance of affording it would mean putting my system in-between the speakers which I just don't like.
I think it's helpful to hear the views of someone who has used cables with speakers capable of producing full-scale performance, When I've switched between small and large speakers, my impression of some cables has changed markedly. Little speakers just can't highlight the bass capabilities of a cable if they can't produce bass.
I wish there were more discussions on forums around Audio Note cables, especially the cheaper ones. I'm sure the one I heard all those years ago was the cheap (well, for them) copper cable.

I've never had the chance to listen to Audio Note cables, and I've heard quite a few different cables in my system. I agree about the scale/bandwidth of a system singling out and differentiating cable performance.

No idea what was happening yesterday but it seems that seller is back on eBay. pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=291058740745 Also do you think Audio Note would let you borrow speaker cables? The guy there(Martin,I think) has been very helpful to me in the past. Could be worth a phone call!

Thanks for letting me know. I'm afraid I missed out as there's only one 5 metre length left. Not to worry: Maybe I was meant to wait for Audio Note. Looks like I will have to be careful what I buy as there appears to be a lot of it being sold out of China, which makes me think it's being copied. I will probably look out for the cheapest one: AN/B as it is more likely to come in longer lengths and less likely to bankrupt me
