There's a good chance of a clear view of the annual meteor shower tonight. With predicted clear skies, and a dull moon that will set early, this may be the best chance you get for a few years. time.com/3829416/watch-lyrid-meteor-shower/Wiki

Still never seen a meteor shower. I always forget to look! I've seen the dd shooting star over the years but not loads together. I still hanker after seeing the Northern Lights but I am a sun-worshipper so I don't know if it will ever happen. I think if I was guaranteed seeing it, I would make the effort.

I totally forgot about this too! I have been lucky enough to see the Northern Lights on 3 occasions though - twice in the UK and once in Canada. The most memorable was in S-W Scotland on the night before my daughter was born - we always joked it must be a portent of doom, but as it happened, she turned out not to be a blood sucking zombie after all!

i had no idea you could see them from Scotland. I thought it had to be much farther North. I need to do some more reading I guess.

Not unheard of at all in the northern parts of Scotland. We were in Dumfriesshire at the time and it was rather a rare event for there. The first time I saw them in the UK, I was actually in S-E England but that was an extreme rarity. I remember it well - summer 1988, I heard it on the news that it could be seen in London, went running outside and there it was. I was actually south of London at the time.

Some years ago I experienced a particularly impressive Perseids meteor shower - about 3-4 am, in Malvern, Worcestershire. Meteors were coming over every 30 sec to 60 sec and some were so bright I found myself 'ducking' some of them as they 'flew' overhead! I'll never forget it.
Cheers. Bill

I've also seen a meteor shower from Malvern, the hills are superb for clear skies.
