After a year of owning my little dot iii, I finally decided to try to change the valves. Bought some Mullard M8161s which arrived today. Changing them was easy, but swapping the jumpers inside the LDiii was a pain.
Who thought putting a little hole under the amp was the best way to switch the valves that could be used.
That said, it only really took 5 minutes.
I was worried that I would "forget" how the amp sounded with the old valves in the time it took to let the amp cool a bit, mess around with the jumpers and fit the new valves, but when I plugged my B&O H6 back in I think I hear more bass, and the notes seem to last longer.
Listened to Hozier's album and now some Led Zep (second album). Definitely enjoying the process. Had kind of stopped using the LD in preference to the Schiit Asgard, but have swung back again (and particularly with the H6 for some reason).
Got some More (ex Soviet) valves travelling across Russia (6J1P EV), so I will need to mess around with the damn jumpers again, but it may be worth it.
Cheers
James
