Ok so maybe I am slightly biased, but my new speakers are just amazing sonically. They have such depth of sound, quality bass with plenty of whollop when you want it but finese with the right sounds. They work excellently with all types of music, and seem to excel with classical which as you all know isn't always the case.
Yes, they were significantly more expensive than my Epos ES-14 were new but I found the Epos to be very credible and these are simply the first speaker I have heard that I really had to buy, if you know what I mean… they were a very good price at nearly a 3rd of the original value second-hand and are in great condition.
Vocally I don't think I have heard better and that is something the Epos certainly excelled on which is why I found it so difficult to upgrade. I'd looked at Wilson Benesch, yes lovely speakers but can't stand the company (not sure why) but they are seriously expensive for they are in my opinion… PMC, nice speakers but not exactly subtle, LOL and no where near as fast as the Epos or Focal. I had also heard Usher, Totum and various other speakers in the £3,000 - £6,000 region which to be were all great and had I not bought these second hand I might well have bought a lower spec Focal or stumped for something else, not sure.
Yes I am sure that Focal's will not agree with everyone, as we know Hifi is a very personal thing, but I would certainly add them to your list of speakers to be listened to… on another note, the hifi shop I frequent most frequently said they wouldn't work in my room (15' x 11') but they were WRONG… yes on certainly tracks they do boom but put the supplied plugs in sorts that out no bother… my point being always try and listen in your room before you make a final decision, yes I know it is tricky, especially if you are buying second-hand as I was, but it makes a big difference.
Now on to selling the Epos, shame they have been in and around my family since 1994 but they are just a bit of overkill for my office system LOL
